No chance. It’s what drivers do, they get on and race again. Have to really, though podium etc won’t have champagne/celebration.

So sad though - one of the better young guys in F2. Was the reigning F3 champion and well thought of. I feel for Giuliano Alesi (Jean’s son) who was the guy that hit his stricken car.

I hope never to see the replay. Luckily I’m not on social media so I’m safe.

The Formula series have done a remarkable job in recent years to cut down the risk of serious injury or death...it's rare to even have a driver miss a race owing to injury in F1. But certain types of incidents are forever going to be extremely dangerous, and a prone car in a high-speed section of track is one of them. It's why I cannot accept open-wheeled cars on ovals: it greatly increases the likelihood of precisely that sort of crash.

I do wonder if some consideration needs to be given to the wall outside Radillon. it's such a high-speed bend, and anyone missing the bend/getting into a collision is likely to be funneled back into traffic, where cars are pretty well flat out.

I expect to get totally slated for this .

    BUT .

IMHO corners like that and circuits like this , are what drivers LOVE .

They love a challenge and the risks are part of the " Game " .

What were the chances of him getting hit from behind at that point ?

    Has it happened before ?

Honestly I am truly sorry that a young man has lost his life today , but motor racing is AND should continue to be dangerous .

That's part of the thrill isn't it ?

I'm definitely not suggesting that Raidillon be eliminated, just that it ought to be possible to create more run-off area there, because a buffer would lessen the likelihood of cars ending up back on/near the racing surface.

Tragedy has followed poor Charles around the sport. Hope he wins tomorrow for his mate.

Leclerc can thank Vettel for holding Lewis up long enough. If Lewis had passed him a couple of laps earlier....

    *rolls eyes*

Congratulations Charles. Dominated the weekend, and throughly well deserved. Beautiful words at the end there too.

What? Charles deserved to win but Lewis wasn't far away from stealing it from under his nose.

So what? If Vettel hadn’t held him back for those two laps there’s no guarantee he would have got past him. Ifs and buts. Why not just congratulate him on an incredibly difficult weekend. He doesn’t have Vettel to thank, he has his own innate ability to thank, and a cool head. It’s not all about Lewis you know.
