That's a shame. It doesn't say it's sold out on the tour itinerary but I've tried to buy one from Kirk's FB page there's none for sale.

I'll keep an eye out for you if you want. Spares usually pop up on the TOH and SOD forums.

They should of booked The Welly.

Still remains the only time I've done the clichéd pulling over to the side of the road in shock thing when a death was announced on the car radio.

    RIP John Peel.

He looks a twat in that wooly hat mind.

    Tonight’s music in Zeb’s yard

5pm Broken Orchestra (Hull) - trip hop, hip hop, jazz and soul
6.30pm Drizilik - (Sierra Leone) - afrobeat, dancehall
8pm (Japanese Sax & more) - Natty Bo & the Top Cats - ska, rocksteady & reggae (I’m not there tonight but this is the one I’d have gone to)
9.30pm Empire Sounds (Spurs territory) - urban afrobeat collective. (Didn’t interest me, but actually I think they had something to do with SESSION which had a live band and dancers outside Minster last night and the band were excellent)

    There you go chaps

    All free by the way

Fourteen pages and nobody mentioned the band that woke the world up.
    THE BEATLES
Saw them twice ABC Regal and Futurist Scarborough. Never heard a ****ing thing, full of girls screaming.
George Harrison was right when he said “ The Beatles saved the world from boredom”

I know it’s much wider than music & gigs, but I haven’t really been impressed with Freedom Festival this year (and I am generally a big supporter of cultural **** ‘n’ that!)

It’s felt a bit disjointed to me.
    Only my view, but...
Tried to spread out too far
    Not enough in Vicky Square
Queen’s Gardens stuff (apart from the paid for stuff in the tents) seemed poor
    Advertising poor
Advertising particularly poor for parade type events. I could only see where they started (and occasionally where they finished) but not the route. Therefore loads crammed in near the start as they had no idea where to position themselves for later instead.
Too much modern dance / circus acrobatics ...it’s fine in small doses but there was too much
Not enough big visual stuff that crowds could stand and watch together (like the animations on Warren and College last year)

Anyway only my personal take on it. I do vaguely know Jenny the Chief Exec a little and I know she, and all the team, put huge effort in and there will have been some stuff that other people really liked so maybe it just wasn’t for me (although I do wonder if the fact she is leaving has had an impact?)

On the plus side though I popped in today but as it was chucking down just before the parade we went to Corn Exchange instead

...actually to be fair my review might have been impacted by the fact that the pubs I’ve gone in have been better that art?!

    PS Bunkerpop saved the weekend

Saw them at Futurist, Scarborough. So many people milling about that the police had to get them to make a balcony appearance and wave to the crowds so that the people without a ticket could at least say they had glimpsed the Beatles and get them to disperse. Unbelieveable, looking back, the phenomenon that was the Beatles at that time. Difficult for anyone not around at the time to comprehend what it was like.

Such was the bedlam that McCartney went off to fix a broken guitar string and it was hardly noticed that he missed a couple of numbers.

It was almost as mental as 'The Bay City Rollers', or 'The Bay Rollers' as Assem would say...

Good pun. But nothing compared to the hysteria surrounding the Beatles. I was amazed when I saw them,
I was 14, as I lit a cig up in those days when you could smoke anywhere, sitting through the opening bands, which no one was interested in, and looked round to see my mother. She had no interest in pop music and disliked most of it but had got a ticket and travelled from Brid as she felt she had to see what all the fuss was about. Though with the screaming and jumping up she will have seen or heard very little to inform her. Don’t think the Beatles were on stage for more than 20 minutes.

This was 1964. Don’t know if it was the same one as Ditton was at as they were there in 1963 as well.

Never saw the Beatles live, one of the few British acts I missed during the '64-'72 time-frame .
I remember first seeing them on telly (Michelmore's "Tonight" show I think), aired around 7 p.m. Maybe in '63 0r '64 ? I could be wrong.
I was primarily a Stones fan.I remember my old man, who was a jazz man at the time, and not really interested in the modern pop genres, saying I should listen to a very talented young band called the Beatles. I was flabbergasted he was so impressed. They certainly woke up my old dad to the musical pleasures of the 60's. IMO the most dynamic/creative period in music (in my life at least).

    1964 was the year
I ****ing love it when you talk about these things. I'm stuck in those days myself, even though I was born in 64. I think there's a book in you.
