The goal by Eze was outstanding ..still no idea why not allowed...so in my book we lost 1-2 Leistner clearly took the player down, but he was looking for it. The second goal was different, Leistner was scalped by the winger but he had driven the Pompey player so wide that the players was only option was to cross it. What Leistner didn't know was that Barbet and Ball hadn't got back to cover the on rushing Pompey forwards ( we were playing 3 at the back by then).. We are not too good at this high pressing game.. We are not too good at converting chances either Tonight was not too good. We lost 1-2
First game I’ve got to this season. Our players seem a lot smaller than last year. In the first 20 minutes this didn’t matter as we passed through and round Portsmouth, but we lost our way and they had a few chances which they never looked like converting. Second half followed a similar pattern. Couldn’t see us losing but Mlakar was awful. Then Leistner gave away the pen and got skinned by their left wing and it was over. Just like the Swansea game except that was Barbet. Which goes to show we’ve only got one decent CB (Hall) and only one decent CF (Hugill)
I listened to the commentary but could not post via my smart phone as the site was down. Did any one else have this problem? As for the match, a very disappointing result, with probably the key lesson learned for Warburton on the players. Initially we seemed to okay well, but did not have teeth in front of goal. The substitutions unfortunately did not help us this time and probably led to our downfall. It seems Jan Mlakar was unable to hold up play or win a ball in the air. Matt Smith also seemed out of his depth. Both central defenders, Leistner and Barbet seemed slow on the ground and at fault for the goals Also the subs and tactical changes did not work this time. The midfield diamond required width from the full backs (who seem to have played well) but this exposed the lack of mobility of our center backs and the subsequent goals. I am sure that Warburton will learn from this and that we will field a much stronger team on Saturday.
Pugh???...in the previous round he was outstanding. This round not so good. He was nowhere near as penetrating. BOS was even more frustrating... I think this lack of accuracy in forward movement really let us down...most of the good crossed came from Manning.....one of which was met by Pughshead in the CF position...why???
Really disappointed not to keep a momentum going. Not really bothered about any cup to be honest. But I would like to see the team develop and build confidence. This game has done neither. And a whole bunch of poor performances by the sound of it. MW and the coaching team need to work hard to pick this lot up for a tough game on Saturday. Onward and ....
Went to the game. We looked good in the first half but no penetration in the final third. Couldn't see Portsmouth scoring ..... but then the Subs seemed to knock us out of our stride. Lost confidence. Dominic Ball looked well out of his depth!
Leistner was by far our best player until the 77th minute. Overall, he probably still was even allowing for 2 mistakes which is a lot less than most. I just don't get the likes of Ball, Smith and why we don't have the equivalent in our youth set up. Is Mlakar any better than Oteh for eg? Barbet thinks he's something special, which needs knocking out of him PDQ. He looks no better than Lynch to me and that's no compliment.
Strange listening to the Commentators on the Official last night it sounded like Barbet, Manning and Pugh were our best players. Yet while most on forums always seem very impressed by Manning, Barbet doesn't seem to be rated. I am concerned there seems to be very little speed about our back 4 or 3, (only Kane seems quick) and a continuing tendency to make goal giving blunders.
Thought BFG was our best player apart from Chair Blame him for the pen but blame the others for the 2nd goal. They were 5 yards from the scorer Thought BFG was excellent 2nd half Saturday as well. He needs to play every game Barbet cannot head a ball which is not great for a CB. was better 2nd half out of the middle in a 3 New striker cannot head either. bring back big slow Matt Smith or use our youth BOS surprisingly lacklustre, considering he lost his place Saturday, Wells and Eze the same Oddly for us we started well the faded Chair is our only creator Smith is young and blows hot and cold Kane surprisingly quiet considering he lost his place Saturday BFG is comfortably our 2nd best CB and needs to play every game The squad is worth very penny of the £50K we paid for it Reserve goalie was an idiot for their penalty and managed to have the away fans mocking him inside 3 minutes
I'd agree that Leistner looked good at times but as, I'm sure you'd agree, you have to take account of the full 90 minutes (94 to be precise). He made a bad mistake (the penalty) and his lack of pace was shown up, expensively, for the second goal. I'm not writing him off but, if he did that on a regular basis, you wouldn't want him anywhere near the team. Therefore, I gave him a mark of 4/10 (our worst, alongside Smith) and, although there weren't many candidates, I gave my extremely valuable (sic) MOTM award to Manning (7/10). Chair was probably the only other one of our team to emerge with much credit.
After 7 competitive games, this new team is still getting to know each other, and with our mixed bag of results so far, I'm glad I haven't put money on them. Give them a bit of time, we are still better off than 12 months ago. I thought we would be Pompey, but then I didn't think we would win at Stoke. This is QPR...….we don't do easy!!!
I went last night with a Pompey mate. Warburton put out half the "A" team, and although we started brightly (Chair was excellent), we started looking like we didn't know each other. When Eze and Wells, came on in the second half, I thought Warburton would keep BOS and Chair for consistence, but no, he took them off. After that, we had possession but were toothless - there was no instinctive understanding between the players that you get with a good team without too many changes. Warburton really didn't give a toss about this cup, and saw it as just an opportunity to blood some different players. Pompey had the bit between their teeth and their winger Harkness was my m.o.m.
I listened to most of the Commentary Ski, and had no problems with posting on here, though maybe that was only after it had finished.
Think we need a new CB with some pace, unless Masterson who I've never seen has that, and is good enough. Can we sign one out of contract now, or do we have to wait until the January window.
That is strange. I has an error message "404" or "Host server not found". Oslo, But thanks for the info - it seems that it as "local"issue if some kind.
I agree that we didn't seem to care much about this game. Also, the substitutions did not add to the game but actually diminished it. With that said, Warburton has made excellent substitutions in all other games, which again leads me to believe he wasn't bothered about this game.
Yes, I agree. Warburton's substitutions have been intuitive, which is a refreshing change from some past managers we've had, and is encouraging. He will be judged by the QPR board on where we end up on the league table. A cup run is an unnecessary luxury and distraction for him at the moment.
