I remember the beginning of the Southern Death Cult gig starting all sort of quiet then exploded on the 'dancefloor' with that variant CJD chicken dancing ... Yep it's amazing how old theses artist are now and us, Lydon 63 & Charlie Harper is 75 & still alive !
Always harboured major Cherokee Indian size reservations about CH, he would have been 31 in 1977. Like a creepy old uncle wanting to crash the kids disco.
I can confirm they played @ Leeds U.U. on May 21st '77 (see below). June is a bit odd as undergrads are usually on their "long" summer vacation, but maybe some colleges carry gigs through the summer ?
thanks for that. Just checked and as Nils ended his tour at end of May it sures looks like TPHB stayed on and played a number of gigs in the UK including Hull Uni. Would love to have been there.
Feeling in my water that TPHB didn't play HU that year (or any other year) Never heard anyone speak of it before....and back then ANYONE coming was big news.
Certainly been documented that TP & TH were booked at Hull U. in '77. Whether they turned up is another matter ! https://www.thepettyarchives.com/archives/miscellany/performances/setlists
Oh yes Richard Hell was excellent Bad Brains Damned Peter and the Test Tube Babies too Great venue. Oh and strangely I was playing guitar very recently with the Gargoyles guitarist...
Felt like a creepy old uncle on Saturday night with Susan Sulley of the Human League flashing her knickers at us in Zebedee's Yard, she's 56 though so was she the creepy old Auntie?
Speaking of Chicken Dancing, I remember an early 80's Meteor's gig and whenever any local lads attempted to dance , got attacked by the Wrekin Crew. I also recall P Paul Fenech saying to the audience " fancy paying £3 to get your f...ing heads kicked in" , and then announced the next song....... Can't imagine this happening at a Ed Sheeran concert.
I was at some the concerts mentioned or think I was can’t remember properly. But can imagine us all been at them and all glaring at each other and thinking who’s that **** think he is puffing our chests out acting tough Now look at us all Mates on a football forum
I went to loads but my brain can’t separate them so I can never remember who I saw with who. Pretty sure that the Bauhaus and Motörhead gig was a belter though...
The infamous Motorhaus gig - Ace of Bats still ringing in my ears ( or tinnitus) after all these years...
Hated the venue because non of the resident students would ever sign any of us in...at least it appeared that way, we were a tad on the young side though.
Saw Hanoi Rocks, Peter and the Test tube babies, Damned and some oi band called Serious Drinking from Norwich there.
