I was one of those greeting Lloyd like a potential Messiah on his first appearance at BP. Reality soon struck, didn’t it? He rollocked Hateley for spending money on a hotel before an away game ( think it was Oxford). Wilby also convinced him that we was a successful, wealthy businessman because he played golf at the same club.
He also said he owned a lot of flats in London when he was actually the caretaker of a lot of flats in London.
Today is D-Day for Bury, they've got until midnight to resolve things, or they'll be expelled from the Football League.
Don't Bury deserve their own thread? Doesn't seem right that discussion / comment on their fate falls under a Bolton To Do One thread. Or at least change it to Bolton and Bury To Do One?
Anyone know how long she was actually there for? Had a quick scan and can't find that info. Hope both Bolton and Bury survive and I agree there needs to be reform. Redistribution of monies wouldn't be enough in my opinion (although I agree with forms of redistribution of football wealth - particularly towards grassroots/youth football), as some teams would still overspend, to either cheat or for other, perhaps more sinister reasons. As already put forward, some form of spending cap needs to introduced to level the playing field and offer a form of protection.
Good point... David Conn @david_conn Bury FC Crisis: Very important point, acknowledged by EFL chair Debbie Jevans, the @EFL is only a collection of 72 clubs; the clubs themselves make the rules, so the clubs themselves and their owners are responsible for the weaknesses of the rules.
The Tim Wilby 'do bears **** in the woods' event at City Hall was in 1997, the thousands in attendance then flocked to Mansfield to see the promised Hateley era begin......
I heard City's Silver Cod Squad nearly killed a Bury fan at Gigg Lane in the early 80's, coach escorted to local nick etc?
I remember going down, one of the first to arrive our carful found a good pub nearby. Great time supping some decent pints and then to the match. Got into the ground to see a good following with a Driffield Tigers banner prominently displayed. Saw a poster off here. Watching a tanned and fit looking Hateley warming up and stretching in a way we hadn’t seen City players doing previously he said that he looked a class above just getting ready for the game. I agreed. Things were looking great as a wave of optimism engulfed the travelling fans. Then the game started...
Can't remember which pub I was in - but it was raucous and overran with City. Hateley looked good and made the right noises - talk of advice from Wenger and aims of climbing back to the second tier and sofort. I did have a word of warning from a QPR fan I knew (where Hateley had been previously). I was, like many, expecting a slightly weathered Rangers' version of Hateley, however, I was pre-warned that he was now ****e and couldn't be arsed. He was right. I also remember at the time there was national press talk of us signing McCoist and Durrant.
