Well I hold her responsible for pretty much everything that’s wrong with modern Britain, but you probably have a photograph of her on your bedroom wall, so maybe let’s not go there.

Anything North of Nottingham, Thatcher was poison, I'm very surprised she lasted to old age.. She systematically destroyed the North and created the North South barrier, there is still a lot of hatred when that bints name gets mentioned...

Ha yeah, forget the Watford Gap, Nottingham was definitely the border.

People from Nottingham will still tell you they are from the midlands, not the north. Just up the road in Sheffield, and you're in the People's Republic of South Yorkshire.

A lot of working people in the South did well out of Thatcher, mostly through buying their council houses and a few shares in BT. British Gas etc. But now their kids are shut out of the housing market, and public services have gone to ****.

Mostly, years of her philosophy made Britain a colder, harsher place.

What about somebody growing cannabis and stealing the electricity from their supplier?

I don't do that but I'm just wondering where your line is before you turn into a dirty stinking little rat?

Stealing something from a big company and supplying a substance that is legal in many places would be none of my business. #hypocrisy

One of the things that used to piss me off though (as someone born and bred in se london) was that all the factories, docks and Arsenal jobs also disappeared down here. Woolwich, plumstead, Charlton, Abbeywood snd Erith were decimated by her Government.
Woolwich used to have a huge outdoor market and a really busy shopping area...people came from miles sround to shop there. It was so busy that the Macdonald's put their first "restaurant" in the UK in woolwich in 1974.
After the whole area was economically destroyed in the early 1980s recession it never really recovered.
SE London did not do well out of Thatcher imho.

Thatcher did what needed to be done. post WW2 the UK was ****ing broke. Our industry was not competitive, and the commonwealth was now just a name, rather than a plunerable resource. The empire had gone, but we still kept thinking we were big shots, living on dead glories.

someone had to do what needed to be done, or there really would've been kids starving to death. The miners took a battering, but they'd been heavily subsidised for years, and now ALL the deep mining pits are closed due to unprofitability. the world had moved on, but Britain was still stuck with it's "we own half the world" delusion.

Bit of a myth, that. British engineering was always competitive, but the Thatcher government did absolutely nothing to support UK manufacturing, they were openly hostile to the concept of state intervention (unlike Germanyand Italy).

Our motorcycle industry dominated the world for decades, although throughout the 70s it lost a lot of ground to the Japanese. Happily, the recent revival of Triumph, Norton, Matchless etc provides evidence that we can still make things in this country.

British Rail Engineering was a Nationalised success story, so of course it had to be killed off. British Shipbuilding didn't have to die either, a lot could have been done by Government to support a 500 year tradition, but the Tories under Maggie were happy to see that die as well.

And when the coal mines and steel mills became economically unviable, what did her government do to provide alternative employment for those communities who had been dependent on heavy industry? Absolutely **** all.

A few words of advice. Never visit the Liverpool forum. Thatcher was an evil, calculating and destructive whore. I bet you voted 'leave'. I could go a lot further, but I'll leave it..
