GKN spotted in Turkey Although, given the Turkish press, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the clips as deepfakes... Also, Edwards may be on his way to Italy ...or, as they're commonly known, Watford's feeder club
Rejected us according to reports yesterday. Wasn’t willing to return for less than his previous contract.
Bit sad that our cast-offs are having to go to far-flung corners to restore their careers (not a good ad IMHO for attracting the less-coveted to the club) .
I always felt he had something to offer but as opposed to Soldado and Jansenn who were given chances , and just didn't prove themselves, GKN did not get a fair chance but showed in the Fulham game and in a few other minor appearances that he was more than capable. I just guess he was too far down the pecking order, and now that we have also bought Sessegnon.....
GKN was cursed from the get-go He was supposed to be a depth signing but OM just had to be dickish and drag the deal out for the length of the transfer window (even though we'd had more than enough of their crap that summer with the Batshuayi farce) so instead of having a few weeks to bed in, work on his fitness and learn how he was expected to play instead he was parked in a London hotel twiddling his thumbs - which also meant he wasn't fit for when we needed him, such as our Season Killer Cup matches, which meant regular starters had to play instead And after that came the injuries. Rarely, if ever, major ones - but ones that meant he would miss a match where he may have got some minutes, and that just kept happening, so he was in a perpetual state of lacking match fitness
Don't blame him. Allowed his contract to run down, then released him and then we suddenly turn around weeks later changing our minds realising how short of options we are (again) and offer him a new contract. Seems very unprofessional. You can't treat people like that.
I think that we offered him a reduced contract from the start and he wanted to explore other options.
That’s not what happened though. We offered him a new deal on reduced terms ages ago. He obviously feels he can get more elsewhere but as of yet has failed to do so.
Also, he's rumoured to be looking for something longer term than we were prepared to offer. There's talk of him wanting a 3 year deal. He might get through that in Italy, where the football's slower but in the PL, he's only got a year in the tank, 2 at the absolute maximum.
L'Equipe are reporting that we've made a bid for Eduardo Camavinga, although the bid also includes a two-year loan-back clause Reasons this is sane * We'd be getting a potentially great talent early, rather than when their value has already ballooned * It would (likely...) reduce the fee by a significant margin * He'd likely get two years of regular football before joining us * Due to the rules on signing U18 players, signing him now and waiting until he's 18 before he joins will avoid a lot of hassle * Potentially we'd have no work permit issues, especially if he's a mainstay of the Angola team by then Reasons this is insane * Two years of hoping he doesn't break a leg * Two years of hoping he isn't a one-season wonder (hell, at this point he's a two-game wonder) * Receiving no RoI on a player we made a significant outlay on for at least two years can have knock-on effects elsewhere * Similarly, if he were to sign, that's two years of heightening expectations on a player who'll be 18 when he debuts * What would happen if, in those two years, a player like Paris Maghoma or Armando Shashoua blows up?
An option to review the T+Cs each year, would be sound. To wait two years for a talent while paying out is not very Levy, is it.
Depends what we can wrangle with Rennes regarding his salary. As he's 16 he won't be on £40k+ a week - but he will be expecting a hefty bonus at some point On that subject (in a roundabout way) I've seen a few people bring up a passage about GKN in Poch's book that mentions Poch being unhappy that he turned up for his first day of training in a top of the range car, acting as if he'd arrived - even though the club had been paying to keep him at a hotel for several weeks while OM were taking the piss. That's certainly something Poch wouldn't want to see out of Camavinga, one would presume
A couple of titbits Sources in Portugal say that Bruno Fernandes has been offered to Los Ladrones, and while the accuracy can be argued one way or the other that does tie in to any hopes of Christian Eriksen signing dat proverbial ting Closer to home, Alastair Gold suggests that Verts will be offered a new contract shortly...and if he is, and it's signed, that's a lot of headlines that are proven just a little bit wrong
