Half time could have been 3-3, both teams contributing to an entertaining half. Score the penalty and potentially a very different game and outcome. That said the only City performers for me were Stewart (MOM) Batty and Irvine. Some decent contributions first half from Turbo. The rest were poor to average. If Terry is targeting the top 6 with this lot, based on this performance then good luck. That said lots of twists and turns ahead and clearly this didn't match up to the performance against Brentford
Glps quote yesterday morning. I think I'm going to lay the blame for this defeat at Terry's door. Batty Irvine an Stewart got through a tonne of work yet dack had the freedom of the pitch. Their formation beat ours, simple as. Yet Terry didn't change it. We knew from last season this was how it would be. Bloody annoying.
Not sure how you can give Bowen a 5 and Kingsley a 6, Bowen wasn't up to his usual standard, but he was definitely better than Kingsley... George Long Showed excellent awareness to rush from his line and thwart Armstrong but found himself caught behind a Blackburn man for the opening goal. Recovered well to deny Cunningham another late on. 6 Robbie McKenzie Got the nod ahead of Lopes as Lichaj’s replacement and it was a tough ask to keep Blackburn quiet down his flank with the visitors’ targeting City’s right. Not an easy night and replaced for the closing stages. 5 Reece Burke Hard to keep Blackburn under wraps with the amount of space between the midfield lines and he was part of a City defence always swimming against the tide. Diffused a few dangerous attacks. 6 Jordy de Wijs One of City’s best defenders on the night as he attempted to keep Blackburn’s regular breaks at bay. Held the back four together in trying circumstances and typically strong in the air. 6 Stephen Kingsley City were grateful to his covering defending on a number of occasions during the first half but he was beaten too easily when conceding the free-kick that brought Blackburn the opener. 6 Dan Batty Drafted in to replace Honeyman and twice came close with crisp drives in the first half. Never afraid to come forward in support of attacks and was again unfortunate when a drive fizzed just wide after the break. 6 Kevin Stewart (starman) Continued his rich vein of form to start the season but City’s lack of overall control meant Blackburn were able to bypass him as the game wore on. Still the best in black and amber thanks to his tireless work-rare. 7 Jackson Irvine Fouled in the Blackburn box to win City a penalty and then continued to threaten when shooting into the side netting. His impact faded into the second half as the visitors conducted the game in their favour. 6 Jarrod Bowen His night got off to the worst possible start when an early penalty was saved by Walton and he struggled to come back from that. Offered little of the threat posed by Grosicki as Blackburn paid him special attention. 5 Kamil Grosicki The thorn in Blackburn’s side through the first half and so unlucky to see his shot come back off the crossbar. Another day could’ve seen him set up a handful of goals but he drifted out of the game in the last half hour. 7 Tom Eaves The summer signing is yet to make his mark up front for City, despite a tireless work-rate. One sloppy pass almost brought Blackburn a goal and his frustrations started to build before he was replaced. 5 Subs: Josh Bowler (for Batty 67) Booked for a very late tackle and unable to swing the game back towards City. 5 Josh Magennis (for Eaves 67) Pushing for a first league start in City’s attack and offers something different to Eaves. 6 Leonardo Da Silva Lopes (for McKenzie 73) Came on to offer more down the right flank but fluffed his big late chance. N/A
Interesting you name our 3 midfielders as the 'only City performers' in a game we had less possession, less shots, 1 on target, 1 corner and more fouls. The game is controlled in midfield and we certainly didnt control that game for nay length of time. The way McCann wants us to play is not suited, long term, to the players he has. They are getting knackered too early in games and this will pass on over this season.
Official attendance last night sent through by a mate courtesy of the Fire Chief was 7,600. Is that a new record low for a league match at the KC?
I think Bowen’s decision making, probably down to a lack of awareness, is sometimes poor. When bearing down on goal he seems unaware of players a sideways ball or one played back who are in a better position to have a crack at goal.
Exactly - Bowen didn't reinforce his £20million price tag last night particularly with it being on TV
I don't disagree, but for me they were the ones who played best. If Terrys system undermined their performances, then that's down to him not the players
The attendance is becoming even more noticeable, used to take me 35 mins leaving at full time from my seat back to car, and home - did it in 14 last night
Results might vary but the declining crowds seem to be the one depressing constant. Grant McCann rightly dodged Burnsy's question about the crowd last night but its so depressing firstly because it must surely get to the players (ok, I know our home form last season was still good) and most of all because I remain convinced it must be a deterrent to any new owner. Personally feel we are at a stage where ironically the decline in crowds due to boycotting the Allams is impacting on our ability to get rid of them.
Let’s hope my fill the west upper with school kids idea finally gets done. Then drop the prices for kids with families in other parts of the ground.
Why does fatty need to ask about the crowds to the manager?? Never hear it to the fc boss do we? And their gates are **** and propped up.
Pretty much how I saw it. What's the point in the big fellas up front, dickov would be better at the pressing game( what pressing game).mckenzie needs to go out on loan to develop as does Kingsley. Plenty for the manager to change before saturday.
I agree that he always likes to stir it a bit. But when they are so poor, I guess it's a legitimate question. Equally glad that McCann played a straight bat.I like the fact that McCann seems very much his own man and isn't trying to be matey with David Burns.
The crowds won't make a blind bit of difference to any potential new owner, they'll be well aware that just their arrival would see those crowds increase and a bit of investment and ambition could see them rocket.
