I liked the flashes of play from Lopes and Bowler. Both look like decent prospects. The jury is very much out on Eaves and Magennis who collectively offered very little tonight.

Love local players don’t you. Back to football. Have memories (and seen bruises) of those who felt the full force of Mike Edwards ‘clearances’ in the Kempton but like you say, loyal local lad with plenty of games under his belt.

    In your face Kingsley...

He did on one occasion and had a rather perplexed look on his face when he saw McKenzie well out out of position.

I’m slightly concerned at McCann’s opening statement that the performance was there? <yikes><yikes>
Hopefully this is his protect the players routine as that was a rank performance.

It's interesting to read the reactions of people after a game like that.

I thought everybody outfield bar Stewart and De Wijs were poor. Bowen and Grosicki didn't look arsed after the goal went in, which isn't like the former, maybe the penalty was a confidence hitter for him. I don't think he's looked the same since the start of the season, Bowen, but it's early days and he didn't start last season on fire.

McKenzie looked shell shocked for most of the game. They saw that Lichaj was out and they knew we didn't have adequate depth at RB. Burke would have been a better option, or Lopes from the start maybe, but he certainly should have been swapped at half time.

Kingsley struggled again, but he seems to be better going forward than he does defending. Or at least he did in previous games. Today there was no overlap on the left and the timing of his runs were awful. If he keeps that up, Fleming needs a chance. Not sure what the craic is with Elder.

We didn't deal with Blackburn switching the play, the full backs both left men free countless times, but they were forced to tuck in because the midfield wasn't putting the pressure on.

I have to feel for Eaves, he isn't going to score goals if he has to keep dropping deep like that. He's got two wingers either side of him that have great deliveries on them, but both shoot more often than cross. If he isn't going to get the service (by service, I mean crosses into the box, not long balls he has to chest down), he isn't going to score. I don't think Magennis could do any better, it was the exact same problem when he came on. I don't mind Bowen and Grosicki going for goal, but we can't then moan that Eaves isn't contributing if the people who are supposed to be picking him out aren't.

The referee was to whistle-happy today, he didn't let the game flow at all. Eaves was presumably booked for an accumulation of fouls, but then, most of them were just him being bigger and stronger than the centre half. The one time we got an advantage, he blew the whistle straight away. He got the penalty call wrong, it wasn't a penalty, but he missed one that probably was when Bowler went down. Refs like that are irritating, because you look for consistency in the calls, but tonight there was very little.

But blaming the ref is a dick move, we weren't good enough today and Blackburn figured us out. They beat us at our game, they pressed us and didn't give us time to stroll around. Hopefully this is a learning moment for everybody, because there are much better teams than Blackburn waiting for us. One of them is playing us on Saturday.

I know we all generally see a different game, but I didn’t see any evidence of Eaves being bigger or stronger than the Blackburn centre halves. One of the free kicks awarded to Blackburn in the second half was as a result of Eaves kicking the Blackburn player (Probably one of the only decisions the ref got correct)

Nearly all of the 'fouls' were him going for the ball and their player being forced away, or at least they were in the second half. He wasn't really fouling anybody and had it been a smaller striker, a foul probably wouldn't have been given. You're right about the kicking out, that was fair enough, but the others were just him being stronger. At one point the opposition defender had him around the waist and ended up on the floor, they got a free kick.

He also lost out to the defender practically every time whether it was a header or with feet. I wish we had a centre half like their number 5 (Williams) between him and Dack they were best 2 players on the pitch by a considerable distance tonight.

Stewart getting booked made him significantly ineffective because he pulled out of a few challenged in case he got himself sent off

Expected a lot more from Eaves - very disappointing - some League 3/ 4 strikers just don't make the grade in the Championship - hopefully he's not one of them - sad to say McGuiness plays like hes had a few - and McKenzie should be playing much better

Best laugh of the night is the big screen flashing HCAFC - Ehabs latest attempt at winning the fans over - Ehab, you will always be a ****

My overall feeling is disappointment, I really thought after Saturday's good showing we might have pushed on and got the win. Probably if Jarrod's penalty had been converted, then we may well have seen a different outcome. I didn't watch the game as it was middle of the night here, but reading the comments on social media Eaves seems to be struggling a bit. Maybe he just isn't getting the right service yet?

I see Will Keane has signed finally for Ipswich, just a thought is Eaves a better option than Keane if we had offered him a new deal?

Eaves looks like what he is , a League 1 striker trying to make the step up to this level

I'm one of those who would have made Campbell a decent offer to stay but we are doing it on the cheap now

It’s all work in progress. Eaves, and one or two others will get their chance at City. How long they are given by the fans is another matter.

I thought we were ok first half , we had chances and could have scored a couple , so could they as it was very open , but it was quite entertaining to watch . Yet second half we didn't come out the dressing room again . Are the players not fit enough to play for 90? Not sure I believe that really but it's happened a few times already this season
