This for me is what astonishes most about Ashley's idiocy, not just at NUFC but at places like SD. I get he doesn't want to pay big execs - he, ironically, likes to stick the middle-finger up at the stock exchange and "fat cats" (hence the irony) by flouncing the rules, messing about with audits, etc. But some of the ignorance is just plain stupid. How can you make Newcastle 'better', if you don't want to pay more for players? Invest in the best possible back office team of negotiators, scouting network and training facility. Make your club the 'go to' for young talent. We can promise more real game-time than the likes of Chelsea/City/ManU too. But, no. We have the cheapest exec in football, who doubles up as Finance, Operations and Marketing Director. And does every role really, really badly. We have a handful of cheap scouts who didn't do anything to warrant the promotion. We pay the cheapest possible manager and end up over-paying massively for crap players - Joelinton's crap, mark my words, and it's got nowt to do with his pi$$-poor start. I'd love to sit down and just get the fat lunatic to help me understand what the fook - if anything - passes through his pigshot thick skull. We are without question one of the most bafflingly run clubs in world football, and it's all so utterly unnecessary.
I agree to a point. Obviously we were just as bad if not worse in our first 10 games last season. The difference is I think Rafa largely wrote those games off in his head. I don't agree with that and think it was a mistake but at least it was his intention. Bruce I think has given it his best to win both games so doesn't have the same comfort blanket. I'll give him time but there is no doubt the first two games are a worry. We look an absolute shambles organisation wise. Tactically if I look at Norwich and ourselves, we look like we are managed by an ageing dinosaur, they look like they have a plan devised by a young modern manager. Obviously Farke has had time and a championship season to build, but I'm just unsure if Bruce will ever move us in the direction we need to. My biggest worry is Joelinton. I have a feeling we are going to waste his talent and never get the best from him. Granted he has to do some of it himself, but he has walked into a **** show in terms of preparation and tactics.
Many of our fans thought we needed to buy big. We got slagged off (apt word) by Karren Brady for not doing a Fulham. Farke had knitted the team so well that the rest of us thought that we might stand a chance going with what we had. We know we will concede and clean sheets will be like rocking horse teeth. I advocated doing the same as Ollies Blackpool did in 2011 and came within a point of survival. I think Farke is doing just that.
Yes. Personally think overall we have better players. Sad thing is the manager and the tactics are not of the quality of last year which has a much bigger impact on top of having foreign players trying to get used to the PL
I'll ask you a different question. Do you think the outcome of our first two games would have been any different with Perez/Rondon in the side instead of their replacements?
A definite yes from me. The header that Joelinton missed, which would have put us ahead and in a different game would have been buried by Rondon. It was harder to miss than score when you see it from behind.
Why that side beat man city and took more points than any side outside the top 6 from its assembly in jan until end of the season.
