It was the list of injuries that made me laugh on that, 1 Racoon bite and 11 Rat bites, quite amazing how many people and the lack of violence, a lot of commercial rip offs around the event (even back then ) but the people made the event, why its remembered as something special.
Watched this. Confession time: I have tried multiple times to 'get' Hendrix and yet again I failed completely. Just sounds like someone having fun at a soundcheck most of the time. There. I said it.
Now you're ****ing talking There is now a marmite flavour peanut butter widely available in this great country..
Unusually for the time, Hendrix played his own way - starting out, he played with top musicians of all genres; he didn't copy any of them - when Chas Chandler brought him to the UK he took it by storm. Almost all the Brit players held the great American Blues & R & R guitarists and copied their styles and nuance, Hendrix didn't have to, he'd played with and learnt from them, he did his own thing. I loved how he played, thought he had a great voice - cover versions of classic songs he made his own plus he could write his own stuff too - I get him but, I'm guessing you're not alone in being one of those who don't.
I like PS's version of Gloria, I bought Horses - I've bought far worse. Springsteen is like Rory Gallagher was - you gotta see him live.
Two people Hendrix said he was influenced by were Hubert Sumlin and Rosetta Tharpe. Rosetta Tharpe was the one who made him want to be a guitarist. Not alone in that, Beck, Page, Clapton and Richards are amongst those who say they were influenced by them.
Saw Rory Gallagher with Taste around 1970 at Brid Spa. In between the obvious chart groups to bring in people the bookings manager used to sneak in some of his own preferences. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn’t Taste did for our crowd anyway,
Not his finest moment, 'tis true. It remains the only music video directed by Brian Dr Palma however, fresh from directing Al Pacino in Scarface.
I just watched the documentary on the BBC i player about Woodstock. I didn't realise what a financial disaster it was for the organisers. Well worth watching, in particular, if you are of an age that like me was around at the time.
There's a new comedy starting on Friday on BBC 1 at 9.30pm, from the writer of Benidorm, but set a little closer to home... please log in to view this image
Many years ago, just before we got married myself and the soon to be Mrs B decided to have a break at The Grand Hotel, it was neither Grand and resembled more of a residential care home... It was that bad it actually became funny. Still have a soft spot for Scarborough to visit
It's not remotely grand and hasn't been for a long time (not since it was bought by Bultin's in the 70's), the Royal used to be grand, but was also a dump the last time I stayed there.
