Echo remote's comment about your wife wiz. I don't want to pitch this as another Warnock/Johnson contest, but apart from his rescue act at Rotherham a few seasons back, Warnock's methods have seen his side finish above Lee Johnson's charges every time in the Championship. Now we know the summer recruitment will have a large bearing for both teams this coming season, but you seem to be on an ever improving run this past 3 years with finishes of 17th, 11th and 8th respectively. Can you carry this forward as a natural progression and maybe finish top 6 or even autos playing the same way? On the other hand, do you think the "Warnock Way", whilst maybe not being the purist choice would give you a greater chance of doing that in this division and getting out of it?
Good of you to give us a mention mate, I only highlighted it because I wanted to give a reason why I won't joke in a piss take of Warnock. I admit he is your Pillock, that's good enough for me.
Well guys, I thought I'd look up this thread I started a couple of months back. Perhaps it's time to start talking about competitive football again instead of (or maybe as well as) Brexit. The new season is fast approaching. After your brilliant 14-0 win in that friendly yesterday, you must be confident for this year?
I honestly believe that if we sort things out up front we’ll be a serious force this season. We created so many chances last season and had at least 4 perfectly good Weimann goals disallowed (wrongly) for offside, so we are almost there. That game yesterday was a bit of fun and fitness and you can’t read anything much into it - other than thanks to the Hallen players for not getting frustrated and putting dangerous tackles in. I’m sorry Sparky but I don’t know much about your lot other than your squad from last year. Have you bought/sold anyone?
Good luck to you R&W - but not too much eh? As far as us lot are concerned, just the 4 at the moment - and only one of them cost any money....... Defensive midfielder Will Vaulks from Rotherham reported about £2M up front rising to a possible £3.5M total depending on our season. He will replace our Aron Gunnarsson - and his long throw which is supposed to achieve a flatter trajectory and greater distance as well. The others are free signings for out of contract players - CB Curtis Nelson, keeper Joe Day, and a promising young midfielder called Aaron Bolger we've taken from Shamrock Rovers over in Ireland. All to play for.
You may not need much, I felt that Warnock’s recruitment last season was always with a view of being competitive in the Championship again this Eason, rather than compete in the Prem last season. Not a bad policy as that generally means you will be fairly well off finiancially if you don’t get straight back, unlike Fulham, they will be FUBARE’d if they don’t get straight back.
Not sure if Warnock's recruitment policy last season was a deliberate attempt by him to plan for 12 months ahead, but it certainly helped..... Not many of us were impressed by our attempt to stay in the Prem for two main reasons. Firstly the overall level of expenditure, but probably just as importantly the lack of game time given to his two major purchases Bobby Reid and Josh Murphy. Why the hell did he buy them? They cost us £21M between them and spent most of the season on the bench whilst he put out the players who got us up there from the Championship to do the job - most bizarre. As you rightly say, far better to be in our position right now than Fulham who spent over £100M on new players (plus wages) and find themselves back where they started with huge committments this year. They will surely have to offload if they can find buyers to recover their outlay.
OK guys - some interesting early combination offerings from the bookies regarding us two - do you fancy a bit of this?................ Bristol City to be promoted + Cardiff to finish in the bottom half - 16/1
One of the advantages we have kept most of our squad together, because no one else wants any of our players. Some strengthening of centre midfield has partially been addressed wirh Vaulks, and Tomlin could be a revelation if his fitness camaign and recent revelations are anything to go by. The championship is a long slog. A squad effort. Hopefully we have a bit of depth this season. One or two more signings would be nice, but we could easily start wirh what we have. Any other signings could be introduced as the season progresses.
I get the impression Cardiff go up every few seasons just to keep the parachute payments, they don’t intend to stay up, so it will be a couple more seasons yet before they go up again .
They'd make more money by staying up. First time round we wasted a lot of money clearing up the mess left by Malky in getting us up and Ole failing to keep us up. I'd hope to be top 6 this season given us keeping most of our team and adding a few more. Though with the championship, you never can tell.
I get the impression the reason Bristol City don't go up every few seasons is just because they can't.
Having a few bob on the offered bet I put up above then? You never know, this could just be your season and our nemesis.
I may well do, got to be worth a tenner, there is always one relegated club that struggles in the Championship and is mid-table at best. As much as I'd like that to be Cardiff, I think it will be Huddersfield.
How did I know that when you finally won a game and we'd lost, you'd resurrect this thread.... We were crap today no question.
Nothing to do with us winning. Someone posted a link to Cardiff’s forum that suggest a lot of fans are getting disgruntled with NW. I thought rather than start a new thread I would resurrect this one.
