That was a great original recording to be sure. I loved the Cream version too (released a year after King's). Album version '68... RAH final (again) concert version ('05)
Surprised when I found out it was written by William Bell, who wrote the classic bellow, as he was know for soul songs. Booker T arranged the music and played on the backing along with the Memphis Horns.
Cream were under Stax at the time - so something drove their recording of "Born under a bad sign". Maybe Pappalardi was involved with Stax somehow ?
The song was written because Stax said to William Bell they wanted a blues number for Albert King. He got inspiration from an old number with lyrics about having bad luck. William Bell was a great favourite of Otis Redding’s. Just remembered one of his relevant to communications.
Nothing to do with the thread topic, but since watching Tarantino's newest flick I've had this belting tune stick in my head...
And she won't be surprised and she won't be shocked When she's pressed the star after she's pressed unlock And there's verse and chapter sat in her inbox And all that is said is that you've drank a lot
Could be relevant. Maybe he was kept hanging on the phone... Remember that coming out. What seemed cool then now comes across as overblown, pretentious crap. Along with a lot of other stuff around that time.
