Anybody heard Ade Edmondson's folk band 'The Bad Shepherds'? can't stop listening to their first album. They do like older (generally punk) songs in a folky style. Here's a taster:
I'm thinking not really. A definate heavy rock bias, too much of that'll turn you into an internet nurd. Oh...
I love it how some people think that it's not music unless they're smashing guitars over each others' heads and drinking their own sick whilst eating fire and sawing their dead mothers corpse in half. I have no Metal cd's in my collection, no metal tracks on my iTunes in fact, the heaviest it gets is probably a couple of bootleg Prodigy albums, however, I can still appreciate the music others like, even my girlfriend's endless 90's pop collection can be a bit of a laugh on a long road trip. I never judge people for what music they're into, as long as it doesn't influence them to be a dick in society. I don't mind sharing a lift in the Arndale Centre with 12 goths, complete with Iron fences pierced through their face and ear lobes that they could skip with, it's their choice, but it just doesn't seem to work the other way around does it? Many goths and Metal enthusiasts will INSIST that you're a walking daffodil if you listen to anything other than the sound of people screaming whilst having their intestines pulled out by the bare hands of man who has mutilated himself into a cat, it's kind of odd and very anti-social, if you ask me. My favourite bands are - this includes anything I would define as a group, not a band. The Verve The Prodigy Gang-Starr Binary Star The Wu-Tang Clan Kings of Leon NWA Jurassic5 Queen Boyz-2-men - seriously, play their cd in your car with the roof down through town on a hot day...it's like taking candy from a baby.
The beatles the doors the clash echo and the bunnymen joy division the smiths stone roses david bowie radiohead marvin gaye PLUS THE SPECIALS,THE BEAT,LOU REED,BOB MARLEY,N YOUNG,BOB DYLAN,MOTOWN,MASSIVE ATTACK...HOW LONG IS A PIECE OF STRING F**K OTHERS I FORGOT THE WATERBOYS,OTIS REDDING,JAMES BROWN,JEFF BUCKLEY
Absolute class,my favourite new(ish) band!!! mines would be: 1.Stereophonics 2.Oasis 3.Ocean Colour Scene 4.The Streets 5.The Vaccines 6.Kasabian 7.The Ratpack 8.Swedish House Mafia 9.The Verve 10.Daft Punk
I used to have that attitude but as I've got older my music taste have got alot more varied. I basically listen to anything except R&B (can't stand the warbbling arsehole) or Hardcore techno dance crap. I listen to: Wu Tang Clan Prodigy Cypress Hill NWA Jesus Jones Cheryl Crowe Counting Crows Just rock / Metal is my main music passion, but depends on my mood to what I listen to
Interesting to see people's taste, I think you can tell a lot about their personality from their top 10 bands. However, as someone who lives and dies for music, it's embarrassing watching people debate the relative merits and demerits of bands. We all have taste, and we all have things that mean we prefer our music over others. Doesn't mean our taste is "right" though. The only thing you can argue about is technical merit and originality, but this doesn't lead to music that everyone wants to listen to, so its still totally subjective when deciding whether the music is actually "good" or not. So come on guys, post your top ten bands and don't slag off the taste of others. ...unless anyone has James Blunt in their top ten, 'cos he is ****ing horrendous ;-)
