As I last week, a good thing about growing up in the early 1960s was hearing all those songs and tracking down the originals. Here is the original of that one. As an aside he is the bloke singing mother in law in the background on this classic.
Tracking down originals back in those days was not easy - no "on tap" social media. Often only available through "in the know" radio DJs and music magazine journalists. My father's best friend stayed in the Merchant Navy well into the 60's. He was music mad. One of my school friends was his son, so his dad was a great source of such info- bringing lots of vinyl (or whatever records were made from then - bakelite ?) back from the States.
Yes, I had a neighbour whose older brother in the Merchant Navy who used to bring some great stuff back from the States in the 50s/ early 60s before it was widely known over here. I was a bit young to appreciate some of it really.
