So a trip to Crawley - https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/norwich-city-league-cup-second-round-draw-1-6214472
Reasonable enough, should be able to play a second string without too much difficulty - given how strong our second string is!
Absolutely. "Second string" seems a bit harsh in these circumstances given the competition for places in our 1st XI now. Could we possibly see a cup run this season? Surely not!
Our second string? Fährmann Byram, Zimmerman, Klose, Heise Andalou, Leitner Roberts, Srbeny, Hernandez Drmic Subs: McGovern, Aarons, Hanley, Godfrey, Tettey, Vrančić, Idah (Based on players who didn't start at Anfield) We don't really have a second string - just two first strings!
So, the PL had acknowledge that Pukki is capable of scoring goals in the League - https://www.premierleague.com/news/1310927 #noshitsherlock
Another detailed analysis of our positive attacking tactics at Anfield: https://www.footballwhispers.com/bl...gos?utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=news-now Fabinho & co looked good when attacking but there defensive contributions were less admirable.
Every time I watch that goal it looks better. There was only one place he could put it to score, the keeper is near perfectly positioned and there is about 30cm inside his right hand post that was vulnerable. Pukki unerringly put it exactly there. Take that Lawro!
The people have spoken. Our season is over. I'll let that sink in for a minute and then close this thread - which is clearly redundant now. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49348679
Melissa Rudd doesn't agree - https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/melissa-rudd-on-liverpool-1-6216066
It's all about getting the balance right, as Melissa points out: "Norwich had a total of 12 shots on Friday when the Reds conceded an average of less than seven shots per game at Anfield last season. Statistics like that allow supporters to feel much more confident about how City will fare against the teams in this league they will have to beat to survive; against defences that are far more penetrable. That fearless attacking approach may have played into Liverpool's hands at times, but Farke proved at half-time that his team is able to adapt when needed. It may have been too late when four goals down, but it was a much-needed lesson in getting that delicate balance right. It could prove invaluable this season, assuming City learn from it." As she says, Newcastle will be the test of that. In the PL, DF has to make a choice. If Lewis and Aarons are going to play as WBs, then we need three at the back. Liverpool ruthlessly exploited the space they left on the flanks to score 3 goals and force the corner for the fourth. If we play with 2 CBs, then Lewis needs to hang back so he can drop back as a third CB until the defence is formed. We did that in the second half and it made all the difference. It really is all about balance.
That's why it has quotation marks, Cromer. My comment is the final paragraph about how the balance could be achieved.
To be fair, it's an alright article, but it's pretty much a rehash of several that all came before it. I'm also of the opinion that perhaps it is a little harsh on Hanley. For me his reaction is one of passion and illustraited how much he cares about him and us doing well. He knows that he must play very well to keep his place when Klose or Zimmermann return and I think it's understandable to be upset with his mistake. I don't think he has then gone on to make any howler so for me she is going classic Norwich fan and scapegoating. For me Hanley at least is an adequate 4th choice CB. Get a 5th and w youth we have coming through has a very large barrier to the side. Bah!
She also exaggerates his reaction. I can't remember any previous PL seasons where we've had 4 CBs to call on - which is just as well at the moment. I know that Amadou can play as a CB, but he hasn't done so for some time and we need him at DM, his best position. Hanley had a good pre-season and we'd have been in a mess if he wasn't available against Liverpool. He's worked hard to adapt his game to Farkeball and I wouldn't have any problem with him starting against Newcastle if Klose isn't fully fit. One shinned own-goal doesn't call for writing him off. On another tack, Lawro has predicted a 2-1 win for Newcastle because of our "league one defending". Does he forget the time we won at Anfield courtesy of his sliced own goal? Pratt!
