    "Lies, lies and damn statistics".

That table shows 7 managers managing in the PL, where we were expected to be bottom half/fighting relegation.

Reidy, Keane and Mick Mac were a mix between D1 and PL.

    Grayson & Coleman only Championship.

Ross should be top of that table. We're in League one and expected to win the league, not the PL expecting to fight relegation.

Jack Ross on Netflix, promotion & his legacy
"I've never lived in fear of the sack in any of my jobs as a manager. I live in fear of not doing the job properly."
As the corridors of Sunderland's Academy of Light hum with the steady buzz of activity, manager Jack Ross is a picture of contentment almost unbefitting of someone with his job title.
After all, he is in a unique position at this time of year for someone leading this footballing behemoth - he is still in his post. Nine head coaches have come and gone since Steve Bruce last achieved the feat, with Ross the first boss of this troubled League One giant to start consecutive seasons for eight years.
Back-to-back relegations, a crippling financial wrangle with a departing owner, and a blockbuster Netflix series documenting it all provided the pre-cursor for Ross, the man who had just guided St Mirren back to the top flight in Scottish football.
Now 12 months into the job and having suffered the heartache of play-off defeat with the last kick of the season, the 43-year-old talks to BBC Scotland about "gut-wrenching" pain, driving home with camera crews, being answerable to the cleaner and his hopes for his legacy at the club.

"My legacy here? Usually as a manager you are judged on how many games you've won, have you brought promotion to the club or kept them into the league," he says. "That has to be a gauge. But I mentioned earlier about being proud of the job we've done in terms of readdressing the culture here and bringing it back to what it should be like.
"This club needs this environment and this atmosphere around it. I would hope already we have made major strides in that sense. Ultimately if I judge myself to be successful it will be if I can deliver promotion. And beyond that promotion again."

    Yeah I can see that.

I'm reading into what it shows though, not just taking it at face value.

Our expectations are to win the league and get 100 points (not my words).

Everyone else above's expectations wouldn't be that high due to the teams around us. Their win %'s would therefore surely be a lot less?

As I said, Jack Ross (or any other manager managing us in L1) should be top of that table. We're a big fish in a little pond, not a minnow in the ocean.

I don't disagree with that but it just shows what a right mess we were in.
I wanted to show how he compares to recent managers - I agree it's not the ideal comparison as we have slipped down the leagues at a rapid pace.
We really need stability at the club and that should start with the manager - I'm prepared to give him a chance (for now <laugh>)

Sorry jack but that is complete arrogance at it's best. "We should be x y or z" Why should we? Why should he be expected to be top because he's in a lower league?

In reality, with a stadium and set up like ours and fans like (most of) ours we deserve to be in the premier league potentially fighting to win stuff.

In reality we went down 2 divisions - just because we're SAFC doesn't mean we should "Expect" anything more than we have - yes we're a big club in this league but saying categorically that, because he's managing at a lower level, he should win more games??

Isn't he also managing a group of players who are obviously not as good as the other managers? We had 6 players last close season and had to build a squad not just use the one that came down

I'm also prepared to give him a chance. He has all of last season that was the bedding in/honeymoon period.

The jury is very much out for me, but I'm not calling for his head at all.

I'd like to see where we are after 15 games or so.

We should expect to win it because we have the best squad, the biggest squad, the best paid squad, the best individual player in the league, the biggest budget by far in the league, the best facilities etc.

These points are debatable obviously, but we should not be settling for mediocrity IMO.

He deserves to be given until Xmas imo, if we can improve our level of performance, and stay in contention for promotion, no problem.

    I'd hope so <laugh>

Each to their own, personally I will always think he blew it last 6 games, Automatic was in our hands , and blew the 2nd chance at Wembley.

That's fair, if he hasn't improved things from the Oxford performance then we'll probably know by Christmas that he's not going to be able to. The new players need time to bed in and show what they're all about.

He hasn't done enough to be sacked and he's hardly failed, I just think his footy is crap. Expect another promotion push under him and could easily be successful this time.

Must vent about the pre season though. Trying to get a three at the back system going with so few matches. We looked like we've never played it before. Reverted back to four at the back in the cup. Much better. But a preseason wasted by the looks of it.

Yeah it looked like Ross told them just before kick off that he was going to try a new formation and only had a minute to explain it to them. Acres of space for Oxford down the left particularly, lucky for us they were as crap as we were.

I've been bigging up Ross by saying that he's not afraid to change something that's not working so I'll be disappointed if he doesn't give four at the back a fair go now he's seen it work.

30,000+ on the first day of the season second only to Celtic and way above the crowds in the championship. We have had 3-television series made about the club, why? Because of the roaring passion of our supporters, if we start to say we are arrogant and resign ourselves to mediocrity the passion eventually will drain away.
We want a team with a bit of swagger, we want a manager whom instills that in his players and a manager who has a football brain to smash his way out of this piddling, ‘kick yr ankles’ league, the players have to show belief for us to believe.
I was at Wembley in May and watched in dismay a team that had no real belief in themselves. The atmosphere was of ‘ we’ve been here too many times before without result’ so nerves shredded the fans and the players. I am still hurting, but they were not good enough and had we won, I think we would have been struggling yet again this season.
New dawn and up to Jack now, so feckin go for it KTF
