When did we treasure this single match as a trophy ? Is it really better than the shield? I remember we used to give every manager who counted it as a trophy real stick The "trophy " is in the bag. I can't see a truly rank Chelsea side providing any resistance. Nice to have the season back and a routine win last Friday BTW
It's a trophy we want to win, especially against the chavs. For me it's much better than the charity shield. Essentially it's a friendly, but try telling the players and Klopp that.
I want us to win every game we play, because it instils confidence in our team and respect from others. However, as far as it being a trophy of value - and I think I might just have mentioned this once or twice already - meh.

Mourinho, Lampard’s former manager at Stamford Bridge, claimed Chelsea should have started with players who offered more experience and “know how” against Manchester United, even if that meant the likes of N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso and Olivier Giroud playing short of full fitness. The Portuguese - speaking in his role as a pundit for Sky Sports - also suggested that Mount, the 19-year-old midfielder making his first competitive appearance for Chelsea, striker Tammy Abraham, 21, and defender Andreas Christensen, 23, did not offer enough for “a match of this dimension”.
You don't need to thank me for my positivity helping the champions league trophy. As for the premiership all my positive predictions of rolling over the minnows came to pass. One of the few problems was that we looked at a gift horse in the mouth at OT, dropping 2 easy points. Bring on the new season. I am feeling really really optimistic

I dont think anybody is treasuring anything in all honesty, the fact that you need to win a European cup which is a rare feat in itself to get to play for the cup puts it about a million miles above the charity shield. Again, I'll be happy to win it, not massively arsed if we lose, but it's a by far more prestigious friendly than the shield.

We won the Champions League, so does that make us the best team in Europe? Not really, in my book, because we didn't win our domestic league. Don't misunderstand me, I'm chuffed that we won the CL, it's a great thing to win and we take the title of "Champions of Europe". But, if the Chavs beat us does that make them Champions of Europe? Of course not, because this game doesn't carry that accolade - it's a confection, a made-up game to screw a bit more money out of people. It could be argued that the CWC - or whatever it's called - has some interest because it pits the winners of the different associations against each other, but CL against EL is a meaningless show-piece game, whoever wins. It's useful, of course, as a further measure of our team for the coming season, and there's the entertainment value - but imo, the trophy itself means nothing.
