Denver Hume will go further than JR ever will. I call bullshit on that 2/10 player rating as well. He completed something like 10/10 passing. Half of those he hit the safc player in the jersey. He had one overhit cross that found a wide open C. McLaughlin. He had one bad throw in and one questionable clearance, which McGeough shepherded to safety. He looked to me to always be in good position defensively. Never got beat, but let two crosses in. He was tasked with marking one of Ipswich's tallest players on set pieces (#9), and kept him quiet. He did a much better job in this regard than Willis did marking Norwood on set pieces. The one glaring negative for me was he was passed the ball something like 10 times and only managed to capture two of them. This seems eminently fixable, however, just check to the ball ffs, like they teach you from the very beginning (U8), and then shield the ball, like they teach you in U9. And compared to our other defenders, I saw plenty of questionable clearances and crosses let in, as well as other misadventures. I still say Denver Hume will be a starter in the Championship, not many in our squad will do the same.
I've watched him a few times and this sounds like the player that I have seen over the past two years, just what has gone wrong I don't know but a good player does not turn into a bad one overnight.
When has he been good then, how many games has he played ? He's been held back by injuries and shouldn't have been chucked into this league with no experience...lamb to the slaughter.
Unfortunately basil made a name for himself then he got injured. We sold our other full backs and he was thrown in the deep end where he should of been introduced slowly
I have to say I’ve never seen Hume do anything that’s made me think he’s either great or **** to this point. I don’t think he’s played enough for any strong opinion.
Oh he's the answer, he'll be ok, local lad, give him 20 games, F@ck Off man. Keep clapping , Happy Clappy you and your bum chums on here, get some balls man , he's not up to it.
You see you're agreeing with Nads saying we don't know either way yet, which we don't after two games, but then you're categorically saying he's not up to it. I know you're only happy when you're ****ting on Sunderland but you don't make much sense.
I’ve decided to completely ignore any comment by him made directly to me!! He’s a complete bell end. As you say, only happy when ****ting on us
I don't mind negative comments etc because if it's what you think then speak your mind, I'm not shy about saying a Sunderland player is ****e if it's my opinion there's no need to pretend otherwise. When everything someone says is like that it's ****ing boring and I can't take them seriously.
It’s more the fact that he’s insulted me three times then either edited his comment (he forgets I’m a mod I think) or says “I shouldn’t have said it” He can address me directly but I won’t reply. Sick of his whiny bitching as well.
Jack Ross certainly has to look at himself and his approach and consider if his determination to play three at the back is appropriate. He also probably needs to critically consider his team selections and even some of his signings. I'd be very surprised, however, if he wasn't doing that. Let's not forget, for most of the second half of last season, he only had centre forwards who were unfit/out of form/inexperienced to choose from but he still nearly got us promoted. We've started this season with a draw against a side we should really be beating and a draw, despite performing badly, away from home against one of the teams that will be in the promotion race. We remain unbeaten. After a (half?) season of respite, the negativity of fans which had dogged us for years, and which I am convinced contributes to our underachievement, has returned in full force. Jack Ross can only work with the players he has available to him and while it is possible to question and criticise what he has done, I think many of our fans underestimate what he has achieved so far and grossly overestimate what can realistically be expected of a manager.
There is some good points there, imho Hume did not have an awful game at the SoL, he did put crosses on albeit poor, but he will get better I have not seen the game at Ipswich. Our biggest problem is creating chances/scoring goals... wingbacks not really working.. Griggs et al not firing
Some valid points for sure but the bit in bold. This is his squad. These are his players. He has no excuses on that for me. He doesn't know his best team let alone his best formation. Our strength is in attack so we need to do that.
He can indeed only work with the players he has, most of whom he brought in. But there’s nothing stopping him being flexible with them and find a formula rather than shoe horning folk in to suit his preferred setup. I’m holding fire until we’ve played 8-10 games.
I already have the horrible feeling that Blackpool with Grayson and Lincoln with them two lads are going to piss this league and if we get beaten badly off Portsmouth Jack Ross will already be a dead man walking so pray to god he can alter things bloody quickly
I agree on these counts. He should know his best side and he should know how to set them up. He obviously doesn't have the players to play his preferred system available to him so he needs to deviate from this. That's his major fault at the moment as far as I'm concerned. I believe he'll get there though so, as results haven't been catastrophic, I think it's too early to be calling for his head. Damn right. The Cowley's are a force to be reckoned with. Look where they got Concord Rangers. They're not even the biggest club in Canvey!!
