Well we’ll see how it all pans out. Team for tomorrow? Don’t know what he’s got in mind; it could be any of up to 20 whom could start. So long as one of them isn’t Madine
Tomlin must play a role, the only player who can see the quick pass and great off the ball play, the problem may be those around him not being up to it. Last week Bacuna looked comfortable at times, as did Ralls, perhaps too comfortable as the midfield seemed to be passed by on numerous occasions. Less heading the dam ball and more to feet... Yeah, that ain't going to happen. My glass is half full with a crack in it. NW, please prove my doubts ill-founded.
Neil Warnock held a press conference at the Vale Resort on the eve of the Bluebirds’ opening home match of the season against Luton Town. Following a deadline day which saw the arrival in the Welsh capital of Isaac Vassell and Marlon Pack, Neil gave his verdict on City’s latest recruits. "I’m so delighted to have [Marlon Pack],” began the Gaffer. “It’s hard to replace players like Aron Gunnarsson. I don’t want to call him that, but you need those talkers and leaders and he’s one. “He always controlled the area and I was surprised he became available. As soon as he did, I was delighted to get him. “I’ve always liked Isaac [Vassell] too. The situation is a little bit like Curtis Nelson, who I watched for quite a while and thought I could do something with him. I think I can get more out of Isaac too.” Thursday also saw the loan departures of Greg Cunningham and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, while Loïc Damour’s move to Hearts was confirmed on Friday morning. "You know what my teams are built on,” the Gaffer continued when asked about De Cordova-Reid’s switch to Fulham. “If a player thinks it's better elsewhere, you can't blame them - if he thinks he will get more incentive and opportunity there. “I’ve always said if anyone wants to leave my Club, they can. I'm not going to change now at my age. “I could see Bobby was a little bit below par this pre-season, since the conversation with the agent. I'm sure he'll do well for them. They are a competitor, but it's up to us to become better ourselves, which I think we can do.” Finally, Neil looked forward to getting back in front of the CCS faithful this weekend, with our first home match of the season potentially offering Robert Glatzel a first opportunity to pull on the blue shirt. “I’ve been so pleased with [Glatzel’s] attitude,” added the City boss. “He stays behind after training to improve himself, he’s that kind of lad. I like the attitude and I think that might rub off on one or two. “The fans have been amazing, as they were last week. We’re looking forward to it and we like playing at home. The volume level at home never ceases to amaze me.” https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/press-conference-neil-warnock-pre-luton-town
I'd like to see what Vaulks can do, otherwise, why the **** did we sign him? He's had more time with the squad than Pack. Tomlin in behind Glatzel, though that might become Vassel once he's bedded in. Good options off the bench now. Hoillet, Vassel, Whyte. We can go out and win a game. OR, Baccuna, Paterson, Nelson, and shut up shop. Sorry, keep relapsing into the negativity of yesterday!
Smithies not Day? I think Day will get the nod. I didn't see anything of last Saturday but my understanding is that Day wasn't at fault for the goals. I get Pack starting but wonder when we will see Vaulks? With a team of giants his long throw will be an asset. Whyte will want a start soon but unlikely to get ahead of NML and Murphy at present. Subs will be interesting. For me: - Smithies Nelson Vaulks Bacuna Whyte Hoilett Vassell No Madine, Bogel (although he could be on the bench for Vassell) or Ward.
Just seen Warnock's press conference comments. Tomlin has had gastroenteritis and not trained this week. Very unlikely he will take any part tomorrow. Could be Vassell up top with Glatzel or Vaulks as a no. 10. If Pato was fit he would be my favourite - but he's not. Interestingly Connolly has had a recurrence of the blood disorder he had before. Not available until October. That is why he didn't leave. Surprise surprise, Jazz not fit either.
Here's a bit more on that City attempt to get that Spanish guy in just before the deadline.............. http://sportwitness.co.uk/cardiff-city-late-bid-striker-accepted-blocked-move/
player power. I can understand it though, especially if its an international transfer. Better off not signing him if he didn't want to be here. Doesn't sound as if he's on form at the moment anyway. No worries, we've got Pretzel.
Bookmarked supcon. Well, Reid and Cunningham have gone, and Pack and Flint were probably our best two players on the pitch yesterday against Luton. You may argue that doesn't say much for the rest of our guys, but the Championship is a "package" game, not a glamour parade. If we can keep the opposition under control and create enough chances for ourselves, then Glatzel and Vassell will put them away - they both offer us something different we haven't had up front for years. We are also not as lacking in skill as everyone likes to make out, Even Josh Murphy could (should?) have had a hat trick yesterday on his own. Our problem is and has been creating enough chances from open play. We have a decent grip on our set piece scenarios, and if we can find that elusive combo in midfield to feed the frontmen, then we are going to finish top 6 at least. Let's see how it goes.
No clean sheet against two of the likely bottom 8 clubs is a concern. Going one up and nor really pushing on to kill the game another. Our defence is too ponderous to see out a 1-0. Plus the adage is the best form of defence is attack.
Agree about conceding goals - when you score 2 goals away from home like at Wigan, that should be at least enough to get a share of the points if not all three. The set piece goal we conceded against Luto was a classic result of zonal marking - we need to change that and target their players not space. Early days though and I think that'll be sorted - it's the other end of the pitch and getting the ball there that we need to work on.
A new signing...... https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...ardiff-city-transfer-signing-kouakou-16827436
