I just don’t understand what we are doing with Reed. If we aren’t going to give him s go this season we never will so why do we keep loaning him out and not selling him?
Agreed. For all the things HR lacks, his hunger & work rate would at least put him in the frame. Permanent move in Jan it is then.
I really like Harrison Reed. But I put him in the Josh Sims bracket. I like them both, but I don’t believe they are the level we want. Championship level.
You're a great judge of players FLT, so I 75% agree with you. I do feel like reed is a class above sims though. Every time I've watched reed, he impacts the game positively. He's very tidy on the ball. RH is the man, so I trust his judgement. But I class Reed in the bracket with Jack cork of players who I'd be happy if we kept. There were games last season, and the one before, where I felt we needed more energy. I think he could be useful.
I'd agree that Reed is probably Championship level. There have been times when we could use a good Championship-level defensive-ish mid with a bit of bite, though. Beats playing a Premier League-calibre CM deep who'd prefer operating in a more expansive role.
So... good transfer window. The only thing that makes me nervous is that I do not anticipate that either Danso or Adams are going to be that good right away. Even Djenepo will need some time to settle and will likely be limited to 25 goals and 40 assists. It would have been nice to get a more mature player in at CB. That said, Danso is exactly the kind of player we should be targeting. And Bednerak has done well for us at a young age. And I think Hasenhuttl can deal with it. I mean, our CB’s were not great last year, and we did not lose anyone.... so worst case situation we are no better than second half of last year, which was not so bad. So most of my concern has less to do with this window, but more the hole we dug which we are still climbing out of. We just don’t have the safety margin we need yet, so I’m going to have some anxious moments. But this really is what we should be doing. Looking for bargains and signing players young who can grow with the club and be sold at a big profit should they come good. And some will hopefully stay longer as we work up our way up the ranks. I sort of respect that we didn’t play it safe and just put the policy into play now, even if it is risky.
Feeling very positive about this transfer window. Nothing comes with guarantees but the three signings give us depth, pace, strength and potential where we were lacking. Bring on the season now.
Also optimistic that we will see at least a couple of departures before the euro window closes - Hoedt and Lemina, pref permanent. Need to get rid of players that don't want to be here.
I really think Adams is going to hit the road running. Saints to win on Saturday 3-1. With Che bagging two. Hes going to be, one of the bargains of the season.
Mental decision to loan out Reed. There will be a point in the not-too-distant future when Hojbjerg is suspended and Romeu is injured. It's not like he is a big earner or anything. Makes no sense.
Lemina's probably going permanently, Hoedt/Carrillo/a GK if we're lucky on loan would be my guess. With Forster, I'd even eat all of his wages for a year if someone wanted to give him playing time...he just needs to see grass under his feet, preferably not that in SMS.
Good window for us. If we manage to get rid of a few more before the other transfer window shuts it will be even better. Just finished my second job so I am off to sleep now
You win some, you lose some. We made what, £50-60m out of Van Dijk. No point worrying too much about things that can't be changed.
Think of it from his point of view - would he be better off playing regularly at Fulham, or waiting for injuries and suspensions to give him his chance at Saints?
