I agree, there were flashes of him being at a different level to others, lost a bit of confidence though. Still a very good player...

Has the club already decided the bloke on loan from Brighton is actually rubbish, great bit of work.

I thought MW wanted two players for each position hence why another striker.
The boy from Brighton is also relatively young so having another proven championship player can only benefit his development

We have two strikers on loan if we thought lad from Brighton was not good enough to start then why get him on loan.i get it if we had bought him as a potential top striker in a season or two but we haven't. Not keen on Wells didn't exactly set world on fire last season. Few million in the bank now and does not look like we are buying defender from Aberdeen maybe scouts can earn their wages and locate a striker from lower division for a couple of million, although Washington was hardly a success!

Although I'm relieved to get this perennial under achiever out of the club I still think this is a bad move for the player. He is never going to cut it in the fast paced and ultra-physical Championship. His agents should have been looking to other European leagues more suited to his style of play.

His stats for tackling, running etc. were always good. If anything he probably lacks the technical skills to play in Spain etc. IMO.

    Yep! From Sky:

Charlie Austin has passed his medical medical and agrees a deal to join West Brom from Southampton, according to Sky sources.

The fee is believed to be around £4m; a two-year deal with an optional additional year.

Austin was great for us but I wouldn’t be happy if he was coming back. Interesting to see how often he plays this season.

I wonder if we'll get anything from this deal? Surely the club had a sell on clause?

If Phil Beard was involved, we will probably have to fork out a few million and pay a percentage of his wages to West Brom. He done some terrible deals for us.

It was like the 'medical' that Fletcher passed in the first proper episode of Porridge!

Nakki Wells loan deal for a season is close according to Sky. Would be happy with that.

QPR give up on McKenna and eye striker deal, with Wells a possible option
    By David McIntyre 08/08/2019

QPR have ended their pursuit of Scott McKenna and are looking to bring in a striker, with Nahki Wells among the possible options.

The R’s have been unable to agree a fee with Aberdeen for centre-back McKenna and are reluctant to spend on another defender during the final stages of the transfer window.

They are, however, exploring the possibility of bringing in another forward by the 5pm deadline.

On Thursday morning a number of potential deals were being discussed, including a possible return for Wells from Burnley.

Wells spent last season on loan at QPR and has indicated he would like to return, although several other clubs are interested.

Rangers are among many Championship sides to have spent the summer hoping to land Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah, who is being tipped to join Leeds.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are set to complete the signing of Massimo Luongo.
