Ralph must think they are good enough or he would have addressed that position as a priority and not a last minute panic/not at all.
Yeah that's the position we are in now but not where we were at the start of the window. If Ralph thought he needed Djenepo more than a centre back then perhaps he's not as worried about that position as us fans are.
Djenepo was also cheaper than an established CB, and we may have expected that Boufal would be among those likely to be shifted.
May not be that simple. Djenapo was wanted and available. The problem with CB may be landing one sufficiently better than what we have at the right price. For all we know we may have been negotiating for several CBs without joy.
Nah, that's not how it works. Besides, he's already stated that he plays 3 at the back because the defence isn't good enough. We know he wants to got to a back 4.
I think the outcry was about Tottenham wanting to move to Stratford, gazumping West Ham. Spurs fans have never forgiven Arsenal for decamping from Woolwich to North London, so hopping across the River Lea to East London would have obliged them to stfu about that, too.
I'm happy that Redmond has signed a new deal. But releasing that information on deadline day seems like they are just trying to distract from the fact that theres not going to be any more incomings. And if there is no more incomings, it's been another poor window. Hope to be proved wrong and they are just building up the tension of an exciting deadline day...
It's good news/bad news, I guess. We aren't going to spend money for the foreseeable future, unless it's generated from sales. The bad news is that no one wanted enough of our fringe players to buy good players. The good news is that we didn't sell off our best players. So, instead of our usual habit of creating a gaping hole in the squad to fill in another, we've just left the hole that was already there.
I don't think you can really say it has been a bad transfer window yet. Yes, we do need a CB and I think we should have prioritised that over Djenepo. However - If Adams goes and gets 20 goals next season and Djenepo proves to be incredible - it would be hard to argue this wasn't a successful window.
In my view our weakest area since Virgil left has been the defence. If Ralph want's to play a back 4 so much then he has had plenty of time to address this position basically since January. I'm more than happy with our defence as it makes for a much more exciting match day but if it all does go wrong and we do start to concede 3-4 goals every game then questions will have to be asked. I get that other areas also needed strengthening but if that put at risk the main area that required attention then is the risk worth it. Only time will tell.
As far as I can see, we'd be the sixth team he has played for in about 32 months were it true, which must be approaching some sort of record (of the dubious kind). Would rather just keep Reed, but I'm dubious that transfer link has any reality behind it.
I'd imagine the only players we might move on today are Austin/Reed/McCarthy. The other unwanted players I think are more likely to head somewhere in Europe so no rush to move them on today. In terms of incomings I doubt we get anyone. CB is the cry but we still have 5, and no solid rumours of any of them going. I think we would have to move one of them on before we would consider getting another one, Hoedt would be the most likely to attract interest abroad I think, possibly Yoshida as well. But to figure out if there would be a likelihood of a loan/transfer by the European deadline and also sign someone all in one day seems very unlikely to me.
