EAGLE QUEEN 5:30 Windsor 7/2 Mum is a three times listed race winner at Windsor, Salisbury and Ayr. Half brother rated 100 on the flat.On that evidence alone surely we are yet to see the best of this filly. First time in a handicap and it would be no surprise were she to make a total mockery of her opening perch.
Morning 5.00 Ripon-Matewan Each Way @ 5-1 [Paddy Power] Like the jockey booking for this shrewd outfit
Becky has numerous rides at Carlisle tonight , she tells me Adams Ale & Stormin Norman are her best chances A friend has a few Horses with Tim Easterby and his newsletter tells him to expect a good run from Kenny the Captain Stay Frosty
Interesting 2YO race at Naas this afternoon. Official Ratings has only 3 lbs between the leading two in the betting but on RPR's there is an 8 lbs advantage to one runner. The horses heading the betting are Peace Charter from the Ger Lyons stable and Harpocrates from the Aidan O'Brien yard. Peace Charter won on debut before then finishing second to the then Albany Stakes favourite Etoile, who missed the Royal Ascot race due to a setback. Peace Charter went on into Group 2 company and was third to Albigna, who is more or less favourite for the 1000 Guineas now. Only two lengths behind in that Group 2 contest Peace Charter was four and a half lengths clear of the 4th placed filly and she sets quite a strong standard here I reckon. Harpocrates has some useful pieces of form in his four starts. The pick is probably his third place to prominent 2000 Guineas candidate Siskin in Listed company. Another good run was his 5th to Guineas hot favourite Pinatubo at Royal Ascot over 7F. On those two pieces of form he is a player here but he was beaten as odds-on favourite here last time out when dropped back to Maiden company and that has to be a big concern. Joseph O'Brien's Latin Five has been backed this morning from 5s into 3's. A winner last time but that was a Nursery Handicap where he went in rated 84. Raised to 91 for that win he still has 6 lbs to find with Peace Charter and has to concede her a pound. I am a bit wary that Maiden and Handicap company form can compare to a filly who ran in a Group 2 last time. I much prefer Peace Charter here. Harpocrates is still a maiden and was disappointing last time, while Latin Fivemay be improving but this is far different to running in a handicap off 84. All in all I felt Peace Charter was going to be very hard to beat today and she has only had three starts, so she has as much scope as the others. I made her about an 11/8 shot today, so with plenty of 7/4 available I had to go with Peace Charter as the bet of the day. I'll be very disappointed if she cannot win this dropping down from Group 2 class. Her maiden win has not worked out well but she has probably improved about a stone since then. 2.35 Naas Peace Charter 7/4
Very poor effort from Peace Charter today. She seemed to travel OK and held every chance but she found next to nothing and was beaten 6 lengths in 4th place. Considering that she was 2 lengths behind 1000 Guineas favourite Albigna last time it doesn't pay much of a compliment to the Group 2 contest won by Jessica Harrington's filly. John Gosden's filly Miss Yoda made an excellent debut today. The Sea The Stars filly was last and had plenty to do with 2 furlongs to go in her 1 mile race at Kempton but she came with a great rattle, moving them all down in ready style. Improvement looks as assured as you could hope for and she outclassed her field completely today. I am just waiting for the headline "Yoda wins despite greenness on debut" in tomorrows papers. <(°.°)>
Never mind stick, only put a tenner on so just beans on toast for the family tonight I've backed more winners than losers from you mate
Yes, I read that in the report later on. I didn't notice anything obvious at the time but she had finished behind Geometrical and the Bolger horse was stone last first time up and ran to a rating of 49, so even allowing for improvement from that one Peace Charter should have had plenty in hand of that horse. I'd be a bit worried about the winner Harpocrates given that Peace Charter was lame and Joseph O'Brien's Latin Five, who was rated 91 and a leading player on that figure, finished tailed off in last place running a real honker.
Surprised to see Albigna fav for the 1000, form looks really weak after Precious Moments was well beaten in the Silver Flash and now Peace Charter, who tied in with the Albany fillies anyway and they look miles below the Queen Mary level.
