That wouldn't be a good idea paying millions for a player who's head is elsewhere and not committed to the cause then!! :emoticon-0136-giggl

You want to spend £15m on Assombalonga and with his wages on 50-55k a week, which I know you struggle with but that’s a £2.6m - £2.86m a year. I’ve helped you on part of the sums now times that by 3-4 years and now you can see how expensive the gamble is. Gayle would probably be more!
I read that we earn average 15m in revenue, (don’t know if this is before or after wages spend on the current squad) signing one of those two would take a huge chunk of wage bill. This is why SL bought more shares this season to balance us before we fell foul of FFP.
You would need a Lloyd Kelly a year to sustain income v expenditure.

Assombalonga is not worth that gamble, whereas, I think Gayle is. If his goals get us to the Premier League, then it will have been money very well spent, as our income will multiply astronomically.

Sorry just don’t like Gayle, don’t like his attitude and don’t think he is an LJ type of player, he appears selfish and disruptive - it’s a No from me, Don’t want Assombalonga either, there is better options out there!

He will no doubt tell us it’s pin money for SL. I almost feel sorry for him that FFP understanding and even reality has escaped him.

Maybe but are you saying that the additional 5 goals on Diedhiou last season will guarantee you promotion? What happens if it don’t? Surely 82 has not been forgotten also when we bought and bought for the sake of it from GJ to McInnes. That nearly crippled us by taking gambles.
I agree in taking risk but at the moment we need a replacement for Webster and maybe we’ve got someone or someone lined up. If not you can score as many as we want but without a defence like last season we could end up conceding more.

You score more than the opposition you win, something we struggle to do.
We are relying on a defence to not concede goals, but if we were to score more it takes the pressure of the defenders.
Gayle is a proven goalscorer and will cost.Championship side are interested but his wages are the problem he needs to become more realistic or perhaps a deal on wages with Newcastle may be the answer.
One thing for sure, the squad that starts tomorrow is weaker than the one the finished last season.’
Why have city left it late again for signings it almost becomes panic buying.
For me if LJ is not given finances I reckon he will be off this season.

Who are these options? , ROD has a point , it’s all very well saying get a striker, and I’m as bad as the next person, but when you crunch the numbers it’s all a bit of a gamble, on the other hand to do nothing is also a gamble. What we could do with is a striker equivalent to Webster. Maybe Semenyo will be the answer.

Gayle scored 10 more goals than Diedhiou last season, and I honestly think those 10 goals would have put us in the play-offs as a minimum.
Gayle’s last 2 seasons he has been in the Championship season, he has the following record:
    2016/17 Played 32 Goals 23
    2018/19 Played 39 Goals 23
    whereas Fammy is:
    2017/18 Played 32 Goals 13
    2018/19 Played 41 Goals 13

Gayle is team player with goals. Would highly suit City's football in and out of possession. Movement and work rate far exceeds Famara. But costs a lot lot more as well.

Strong rumours linking Gayle with a season long loan to Leeds if they sell Roofe to Anderlecht

I'm not sure Gayle is the answer because wasn't he a 6-10 million player on our radar a few years ago and he didn't come here? We were supposedly vying for him and another similar player and neither of them ended up with us at that time. There's something to be said for bringing in this type of player to possibly boost our goals but I have my doubts about him and I can't really explain why. We'll possibly find out on Monday unless Lee has an unannounced new player on the team sheet for tomorrow - or not.

It was Inver, him and Andre Gray. But let’s not forget that was back when Steve Cotterill was in charge and we were newly promoted, we are a whole different team proposition now to then, and far more attractive to someone like Gayle.

I think I would like Maupay over Gayle or Assombolaga and I believe his salary demands may be considerably less than the others. Let`s see what Lee can pull out of his magic hat later this week.
