He’s a bit stuck isn’t he. The big 3 in Spain didn’t see him as a priority, Bayern Munich don’t seem to have had a sniff, and Juve have already signed plenty of players on big wages. I doubt PSG holds much draw for him and apart from the PL clubs who aren’t a possibility for him this summer and who arguably wouldn’t want him anyway, I’m not sure who else could have afforded him this summer.

He’s made a “come and get me” plea and it’s failed, so his agent must have a bit of egg on his face right now. I’m sure he’ll find his new challenge on a free if it’s still what he wants next summer though so I’m not hopeful of him signing a new contract, unfortunately. Unless there is a buyout clause in there that everyone can agree on.

I can't find the source now but I am sure that I read a 'spurious' rumour yesterday that Eriksen will sign a new 2 year contract if we put a 'sensible' release clause in it.

    Liverpool have signed...

    Sepp Vsn Den Berg £1.3m
Harvey Elliot .... 16 yrs old

Salah and Mane spent the summer playing in the ACON and Firminio played in the Copa America tournament so they have had a hugely disrupted preseason.
No press outrage, no accusations that their owners are putting profit before progression.

We have bought 3 players for a total of £70m (ish) yet the whining is immense.
We are trying to buy players and keep the costs affordable and we are mocked yet at the same time united are mocked for just paying whatever is demanded for the ex palace player and for Maguire.

The lack of consistency is gloriously weird.

RB is an interesting one because Aurier doesn’t seem to be the long term solution (and has basically missed preseason), KWP remains relatively unproven at the top level, and Foyth is a gamble there in terms of him learning that position ‘on the fly’. I’m surprised we haven’t spent on that position especially considering the fee we got for Tripps

I could live with that. For me he’s earned a huge move, been one of, if not our best player since he joined. He said he fancied a new challenge but remained professional and very appreciative of Spurs and never actually ruled out staying. If no one wants him that’s perfectly fine with me but equally I wouldn’t begrudge him a move should he actually go (so long as he went abroad).

Compare his professionalism to that of Modric and Bale and it’s chalk and cheese.

I think this is very risky. There’s no certainly that either of those players will cut it in the premier league, and there’ll be a massive weight on their shoulders to fill Eriksen’s void. Granted, either of them might well set the premier league alight, but it still doesn’t make us any stronger if we only sign one of them. As things stand, we need competition for Eriksen’s position as it is, let alone if he leaves us.
If Eriksen is leaving, we shouldn't even be thinking about not signing both players, IMO.

Liverpool spent massively in 2018 though. This summer was always going to be a quiet one for them as Klopp has always said.

Poch spoke about a brave summer for Spurs and operating differently to the previous windows for the next stage. A net spend of around £15million isn’t being brave or ambitious when the squad is visibly lacking quality and competitiveness in multiple areas

If we had to make a choice between the two, Lo Celso would be my preference because even though he doesn't have the goals/assist stats of Fernandes, he'd be a much better fit for our team and our system - especially considering Fernandes' habit of going for Hollywood passes in the final third

Yeah I agree it’s a risk at this stage, ideally we’d have got one of them at the same time as NDombele, a full preseason helps the integration. But like you say there is never a guarantee. Like hbic I think Lo Celso is the better fit for us but it’s all conjecture at this point.

At this stage our best bet is keeping Eriksen for a year and either getting one of them to compete this summer (unlikely I think) or going back in January to ensure we secure their services come the first day of preseason next summer when we’ll likely lose the Dane, one way or another.

Nobody wants him so badly right now that they accept the Levy tax.
However, suitors have options now. Specifically to try and get him :

    1. [ Euro ] cheaper between Aug 8 and their transfer window end

    2. [ All ] cheaply in the winter transfer window

    3 [ All ] on a free next summer

Whatever the scenario, all Eriksen has to do is not sign a contract now
and be professional when it comes to on-pitch matters.

Liverpool went for VVD in the summer of 2017 but did not get him until Jan 2018.
If we sign 2 of the players we have been linked with we will have bought 5 players and spent around £150m... surely Thursday is when we judge the window.
On top of this your point does not undermine the difference in attitude to Liverpool's window.
It seems there are spurs fans and people in the media who are determined to have a problem with ENIC and Levy no matter what.

My view is thst if we do not sign anyone else and do not lose anyone then its been an average window.

If we lose Toby and or Eriksen and do not sign anyone else then we have gone backwards.

If we get 2 of the 3 players we are targeting and sell those players I would say it has been a good window.

If we get 2 of those players and keep Toby snd get Eriksen to sign a new deal it will have been a great window.

But I can not judge until Thursdsy night.

Oh they have their options for sure. But I can’t see us selling with the squad in its current state and a January exit wouldn’t sit well either unless he really throws his toys out of the pram and it’s being detrimental. I can see his staying for a year and going on a free, or like others have said, on a suitable release clause if he chooses to sign up to one.

    1. .A window is a window, not part of a window. One cannot see the whole picture though just a small part.

  15. Tottenham are set to sign England Under-21 midfielder Ryan Sessegnon, 19, from Fulham, but may miss out on 23-year-old Argentina and Real Betis midfielder Giovani lo Celso as a result. (Star Sunday)

I wonder if Poch will see this as being "brave" in the window?

  16. Tottenham are also ready to compete with Roma and Juventus for Napoli's Albanian international right-back Elseid Hysaj, 25, who was a target for Chelsea last summer. (Sunday Express)

By "compete," they must mean "Levy is getting ready to offer half the club's valuation with instalments over ten years."

I wonder if Napoli would be interested in an Aurier-Hyseij swap? Hyseij coming in and the likelihood of KWP getting more game time would imply Aurier may struggle for minutes, so if Napoli want a quick replacement then it’d make a lot of sense from both sides.

Losing Eriksen on a free is ok all of a sudden but when Levy is being a tight **** during transfers everyone thinks he's savvy and those wanting him.to spend are careless.

Eriksen isn't worth keeping just for 1 year...just like Cabellos wasn't worth pursuing due to his short term interests

Eriksen should have had his ultimatum by now...but we are just pissin about.

3 players? Who would they be?
We have signed one player by my count. Plus another who won't be able to impact results as he won't be playing for us next season. Plus another who is an unknown teenager signed for pocket money.

And there absolutely has been an outcry about Pool's pre season. Klopp has been grilled about spending in every conference he has given. He got so defensive at one point that Pep took what he was saying about City's spending as a personal insult. And I've counted 2 if not 3 articles on Pool's media outlet (the BBC) opining that their disrupted pre season could impact their title challenge this year.

Four days to rescue this horror show. I'm happy for the fans with their heads in the sand but the writing is on the wall and has been for weeks now. I just hope I'm proven spectacularly wrong.

Levy won't countenance him leaving on a free. If an offer of circa £50m comes in even after our window has closed and the player is up for the move, can you honestly see us keeping him?
