I think he'd prefer to be alongside Hamilton, Hams way out in the lead so bound to yield into the first corner. Bottas on the other hand, all to play for.

At least the start will be interesting, not holding out my hope for the rest of the race though, unless some thing happens at the front which puts them at the back.

When Max won in Austria it was easy to say, well the Mercs has issues, there were extenuating circumstances. When he won in Germany we could say, well he drove OK, was maybe lucky but drove pretty well.

I think this pole is more significant than both. In normal conditions he and the car have the pace to be on top outright. I just get the feeling this is the end of Hamilton’s relatively easy run of the last 12 months or so and the start of something big for Verstappen. There probably isn’t time for him to make up the deficit this year but next year he will be hard to stop on this form.

I know this may not go down well in some sectors on here, but is Max driver of the season so far?

Seems to have cut out a lot of the on track petulance and mistakes from previous years and has assumed the role of lead driver quite naturally. Just gets quicker and quicker. Hungary pole lap was pretty sweet, had absolutely nailed it.

Is now looking like the real deal.

Okay, he is still an arrogant arse, but that just means he is entitled to be up there with the best as all of them are/were........

I would be the world's biggest hypocrite if I didn't say I cannot abide him , Horner , Marko as people ( CH in first place ) .

He IS IMHO driver of the season , and he is in with a very good chance of being F1 WDC 2019 .

    No I'm not joking .

That is not to say I don't want them all to fail spectacularly .

It is good that there may be a genuine threat to Mercedes dominance, so that alone may make Mercedes more desperate to win and would they then start to make more errors under pressure and then we'll see some more action happening.

I have been amazed how much Honda have raised their game with Red Bull, and how much of that has been Red Bull's influence over 2018 when they were with Torro Rosso. If they had done the same with Renault then maybe the hybrid era could have been more of a success for them as well, as the V8 era was when they collaborated to make the blow exhaust/diffuser work.

Just shows what happens when two partners really work at something together.

I think , as has been mentioned before . Gasly's involvement with Honda is invaluable . Not so much from a Technical POV , but from how to deal with the Japanese mind set .

McLaren / Honda was brilliant in the past , as was Williams / Honda .

Surely it's no coincidence that the last McLaren crowd were a failure in regards to " Getting " Honda ?

FWIW if R Dennis had stayed , it WOULD have been a success .

I don't like him but I do admire his talent as it has shown itself this year. perhaps he was trying too hard before.
I doubt he is a likely champ this year, we are more than halfway through the season. I am not a blind Lewis fan but I think Lewis is hard to beat when he is on it. Last week was not typical, Lewis had been ill.
Anyway, let's enjoy tomorrow, see what surprises it brings, really pleased to see some progress from Williams, hope they have something to smile about tomorrow, give the team reassurance and something to smile about.
Daniel/Renault made some mistakes today, he and they need to be on it, putting him out in traffic was not smart.

Oh for sure. It’s where the current criticism of Charles’ little mistakes are irritating me though. This is Max’s fifth season in F1 to Charles’ second. In his second season (and up until this one really) Max struggled to keep it on the track.

Give it time, we have an epic tussle with those two ahead for many years.

Bottas trying a bit too hard has broke his front wing. Can't see this helping his negotiations.Good start from Max

Hamilton was all over him. Super aggressive and super controlled from Lewis. He wanted to get Bottas out of the way to get after his real target.

After watching Bottas nose change I was wondering if there is any restrictions on how they jack the car up. i.e could there be a hydraulic platform they just drive the car onto? That way a nose change would be a lot quicker.

Mercedes should replace Bottas with someone good but I'm not sure Hamilton would want that

The problem with some one good is it risks Merc taking the drivers championship as it's 2 drivers would take points of each other.
It would be great to see though :)
