I think we need a better left back. Kingsley was over run by Dyer and for me he was a weak link last season.

Dyer is very good at this level though. He'll have easier opponents this year.

I knew we were in trouble when Swan said after 40 mins he thought Swansea could get relegated this season. If I had a tenner for every time that man has written off the opposition, I'd be a wealthy man. I think the key issue this season might be whether we can manage to play the attacking football the manager wants without conceding at least 2 goals a game. Defence wasn't great last season and with 4-3-3 it could be even more under pressure. He might need to compromise a bit - though not sure he's the compromising type. Ah well, knew it was too early for the football season.

No matter how good or how bad your full back is if he doesnt get assistance then he is going to be over run, Grosicki while providing our edge up top doesnt do anything to help his full back, Bowen was the same until Adkins seemed to have a word in his ear. Agreed Kingsley really isnt that good, but both full backs get minimal cover or assistance in this team.

    It’s all about results.

If we had won 5-4 today I would wager few would have be bothered about goals conceded.

Agree. Our full backs got minimal support from either winger last season. Wonder if he will try to do something about it.

Didn't Kingsley assist Grosicki for the goal?

Just seen the goals, got to say long has to question his positioning for the first imo

That comes with the formation that McCann wants to play. It’s 4-3-3 and he said he won’t change formation. So on that basis I do think we need a more competent left back. With Kingsley being an ex Swansea player (Dyer will have played with him as Dyer has been at Swansea for ages) he’ll have known how weak Kingsley is defensively.

No points it's sad, but was it hopeless or not?

Agreed ... not sure we will be investing in one though sadly.

With only one recognised first team left back I’m hoping we do.

Formation, application and tactics are important alright but for me it’s basically a question of whether or not we can we score more goals than we concede enough times to keep us out the wrong half of the table.

It’s the first game for Christ sake. Disappointing result after being ahead but that’s life. A crap start to the summer break with the manager fiasco has left us behind again and we will take a while to get going. Terry will soon get an idea of what’s what if he is as good as they say. I think we still need additions including the full back cover talked about but if we lose two of the three players touted to leave we will be in deep ****. Would love to see at least two more coming in next week and still say the loss of Campbell at this stage does not look good.

    It wasn't hopeless
I just think it looked like we had one plan (which worked fine in the first half), high pressure all around.

Not sure if this counts as a jinx or not, but I did see it coming

    upload_2019-8-3_19-1-19.png

We didn't really have "Plan B", altho we got somewhat better after that shocking start.
    Swansea were really nothing special.

It'll get better with a couple of games under the belt.
I really don't think Dicko offers anything up top tho..

    Not hopeless but not good.
Swansea looked a poor side to me. Unless they re-invest their recent transfer money, they will struggle.
Some, including Swanny, saying we were the better side. I just don't see that. Even in the first half, they had 60-odd percent possession against our 30-odd percent. They had more corners and shots.
We though happened to grab the early goal.
2nd half they did the same, twice.
2 poor (but not hopeless) sides; in truth they were a little better than us.
Early days for our new manager, his new tactics etc, ..... but it wasn't a particularly good start.
Not meaning to be pessimistic, just realistic opinion of what I saw.

Just listened to GMc and seems he is keen to have everyone in the team do their defensive duties as well as going forward. Sounds like he wants 4-3-3 in possession but 4-5-1 out of it ... mentioned he is hopeful of bringing more in but obvs wouldnt illude to who or what position. Hasn't heard anything with regards offers for our own players.
