5:00 Bangor - Rosserk Abbey 8/1. Irish raider with a very talented young jockey booked for his only ride of the day. One of a couple of horses in the race that's been nibbled at in the betting. Very speculative given the horses lack of any form. British racetrack debut today and its the jockey booking that really caught my eye. Too short for each way so its all or nothing and win only.
Rubbish selections yesterday, only one way to go now... Further down in to the mire... 1:50 - Perfection 2:25 - Momkin 3:00 - Beat le Bon 3:35 - Battaash 4:10 - Dark Silver 4:40 - Baghdad 5:15 - Sapa Inca Good luck if your playing today, I'll probably be watching the cricket if truth be told...
Before the race I went to post that surely Billesdon Brook, a Guineas winner, was a great ew bet at the odds. Went to post and the internet dropped out. Just watched it win and was really pissed off that I didn't get it posted. A very rare winner. And, honestly, I was going to aftertime if it got beat. So hit me
Hope you did Perfection ew Red .... I did, and was shouting her home 1f out but she got collared. Maybe a good sign - I certainly need one - other arrows are Duke of Hazard and Mojito. I had a few Mojito's in Cornwall, and although health issues brought me home early, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the cocktails
I did the same in the bookies this morning. Some wise old man once told me class wins races 9/10 times. Looked at his form, changed my mind.
Jubiloso looked one to avoid today. With the way Hermosa ran yesterday, and the general form of the Coronation Stakes, she looked poor value at evens taking on older horses. The Coronation Stakes has seen only one winner since and that was a Listed contest won at odds of 2/5 Fav, so hardly a boost for a Group 1 race. This is my least favourite day of Glorious Goodwood so I decided to stick to the Golden Mile for a bet. Mojito looks an obvious one after a winning return but he is fairly short and after a gap of more than 600 days due to a setback there is always that dreaded bounce possibility on the second run back, I'll pass at the odds. The general odds are pretty scandalous for such a big field handicap and Game Player is pretty tight at about 11/2 for Roger Varian. Dark Vision was talented as a youngster and has possibilities for Goodwood king Mark Johnston but he's a shade tight along with Beat Le Bon who is progressive but yet to tackle a mile so single figures seems a bit skinny. I went with Escobar from the O'Meara stable. When he was 2YO he was prominent in the early 2000 Guineas market after winning a Listed race on his second start. Those ambitions quickly unravelled when he was poor as a short priced favourite for the Somerville Tattersalls on his next start and he went into the wilderness after that. Now a gelding, he won last time in very ready fashion travelling well before taking it up. The runner up there followed up next time. On his previous start Escobar ran behind Mojito and although you could argue that he won't reverse the form Escobar dwelt that day and was behind, while Mojito trapped like Ballyregan Bob and was away after the hare. I expect a solid effort from Escobar today and there was just something about the way he travelled last time that suggested he might have finally clicked again. At 10/1 and with five places he was my each-way bet today. 3.00 Goodwood Escobar 10/1 EW places 1-2-3-4-5
Royal Intervention was interesting under Frankie, used a lot of gas to get to the front in the first half of the race and didn't quite get home through that IMO.
Obviously our resident toff is on his annual 2 weeks leave in Devon. If he were here I'm sure he would have observed that Mr Buckley (great patron of Seven Barrows and the forum's 4th favourite owner) has an interesting one down the bottom of the weights here
Over in France there is a 2YO maiden race where Jean-Claude Rouget has the favourite Vienne. She was runner up on debut and only narrowly beaten, so you might expect her to be the one today. The interestingly named Invincible Spirit filly Jam And Mam is next in the betting but I took a chance on the Andre Fabre filly Bionic Woman. By Lope De Vega Bionic Woman is coming from a stable who were in the doldrums two weeks ago on 1/28 and a misery sub 4% strike rate but over the next fortnight the Fabre yard has gone 6/27 and a 22% winner rate. I am hoping she can be good enough to score first time up and the yard have a good youngster in Earthlight as a guide. 4.20 Deauville Bionic Woman 4/1
Of course, the fav. the one I did back (virtual) gets beat . Why the **** did I not look at these races last night (only looked at the one race). Could have done with that ew on BB but doubt I would have had much on it
hi fellas! here are my fitrst two for today: bangor,3 20: MARCEL DEBRUXELLES stepped up on recent efforts at uttoxeter last time out,and while its doubtful,he achieved much there,he can go well for his top yard. goodwood,3 35: QUATAR STAKES well, ive been thinking long and hard if i will oppose battaash here, and i think, its worth it,at least e w,and in my opinion,EL ASTRONAUTE is nearly a certainty for a place, given the level of form, hes already shown this seasn.stable also in top gear at present,so should be bang there..
