Like Des And Peter my old man Den would have loved to have seen all that is going on around our club and would have been pleased as punch to know that his grandson has been involved with the construction of our new stadium His great grandson and daughter are now 5th generation Spurs fans although too young to know that , if Des and Peter are in a boozer up there they can look out for Den , he will be on the lager and smoking an Old Holborn roll up and I know he would buy the a pint or two ......COYS
I will happily raise a glass to these fine gentleman who have handed down the wonderful tradition of supporting our wonderful club to their heirs. My Dad hates football - he was born in East Ham so that's probably no bad thing - my mum is from Peckham and guess where her dad to took her! But they have 3 sons who all support the mighty Spurs and we have all passed the batton on to our sons and daughters too
Sorry to hear of your loss mate family are special I'll have a drink for you and your family tonight keep your chin up and look on the bright side my old man was a man u fan ffs.
Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes. Sunday will be an emotional day but your thoughts will be with me as my daughter and I support each other. COYS!
I'm very sorry for your loss, Brian. I'm touched by your memories and thoughts on family, sports, and love. It hurts a lot when your Dad dies. Most of my favorite memories of mine involve sports, either playing them with him or watching them with him. He introduced my brother and me to different sports rather methodically. He explained the sport's concept, said the magic words,"Do as I say, not as I do," and then demonstrated. He always fell slightly short of perfection, meaning a tennis ball would end up bobbing along in the Hudson River, or he himself would come to rest head first in a snowbank. The only sports he never taught me to beat him in were pool and swimming, as he was a bit of a shark. I'll raise a glass to your dad at 10:06, EDT.
Thanks. It helps a great deal. Your sporting memories of your dad and not being able to beat him at certain things sparks numerous memories. My dad had the VERY annoying ability to be good at a lot of things, many of them without seeming to try too hard. He was a grammer school boy and although, like myself, a football/Spurs fan above all, he played rugby at school and was a blue at University (also at squash and badminton). His demand that his sons play rugby and not football was one of many battlegrounds as we grew up. When I was 15, I was introduced to golf. I spent enormous number of hours with a borrowed set of clubs practising in our back garden with some hugely light practice balls. I never got beyond being okay. One day, he strolls up and picks up a club and starts to strike the ball perfectly, time after time, after time.... Of course, he'd never played before.... I wasn't laughing then. I can now.
Our Audi Cup footage: Different commentators and neither is the usual one, as he's been working for Premier Sports. Hopefully that's temporary. Cut out most of the penalties too, which is a bit of a strange choice.
There have been engineering works at the weekend on those set of lines for N consecutive weeks over the summer. That work completes before the start of the PL season. I was told by staff that on the WHL line in particular, TfL have been using the opportunity to work on new WHL station in parallel with the track work. Sorry that the attendees for the Inter game will suffer, but IMHO better (on paper) if it gives that extra bit time for new WHL station to be ready for the season proper with full houses.
I'm 79 in November Brian. Perhaps I can adopt you and leave you all my Spurs collection when I kick it! ….Charlie Buchans,Soccer Stars etc, prewar Spurs programmes and numerous other rubbish!!!!!
