I think that we will struggle to do as well as last year, play offs at best, still poor at the back and we don't score, manager dull as dish water. Anyone have a better outlook ?
No, we won't be as bad as our last 7 games last season, at least I hope not. I understand your concerns tho.
Concerns? I'm terrified mate. I'll be amazed if we win a game. I've already put my life savings on us only scoring from own goals.
I fully expect us to be offered M'Vila on transfer deadline day for literally peanuts but we'll turn him down and re-sign Cattermole on a seventy year contract. Disaster at every turn. Ross will tear his face off after the 0-15 drubbing by Oxford and reveal he's been Moyesy all along.
All own goals in the same game. Betting scandal. Joking aside, I firmly believe we will win the league.
Haven't seen enough (any) of the new lads to form a solid opinion. However, based on the current squad I don't think we have enough to win the league. Playoffs certainly, maybe second but any of about 4 or 5 teams could easily "do a Luton" (us included). To be confident of winning the league I'd say we need a new CB, creative AM, striker, Marcus Madison, and decent cover at LB and RB. The AM could be Embleton, the striker could be McNulty/Grigg/Wyke. Madison's job could be done by Watmore/Gooch/Geads/Maguire. The others we are sorely lacking imo. If we could only sign one player I think I would prioritise a top quality (for this league) CB, as ours simply aren't up to scratch.
The defensive mentality and inability to hold onto a lead were the downfalls last season, not the ability of the players. You have enough to go up, without doubt. I can't see it being a canter but can't see you being outside the top 4 either. I'd say automatic if I was a betting man but with only limited confidence. Also - worth noting that it ended up going well with the relegated teams from the Championship. I reckon Millwall or Reading would have been up there fighting but Bolton aren't going to be and Rotherham aren't exactly looking to be stacked with quality. Ipswich are harder to gauge but overall it's not like there's 2-3 additions to the league to challenge at the top; the main rivals are those left over from last season.
Top two for me... But we need to get off to a good start and three points against Oxford would do nicely.
A few early wins will work wonders, and it could be records rather than hearts breaking seasons end for a change. Lets go for it. OaU.
How do you get to that “we don’t score” and “poor at the back” conclusion? Scored 5 in our last game and only conceded one worldy against a top division Dutch side! Defence has looked decent close season and McNulty got a hat trick.
5 in a practice match doesn’t paper over the cracks. Let’s wait and see, hope you’re right and I’m wrong . That would make a change
