Morning 5.55 Goodwood-Whitefountainfairy Each Way @ 12-1 [Ladbrokes] 5 Places She could be worth waiting for
Big question of the day had to be, is Too Darn Hot too darn short? Beaten by Circus Maximus at Ascot, but the market clearly thinks that was an aberration. The former 2 year old superstar had excuses for disappointing in the first half of the summer, and duly redeemed himself at Deauville. He really should win today, but as well as his Ascot nemesis, he also faces older horses for the first time. I’m not hugely tempted by the price (but have him in a double with Stradivarius).
In my secluded little bolt hole on the Welsh coast ive mustered enough 4G to have an ew speculation on Fun Mac in the Goodwood opener @ 14/1 - conditions to suit and well handicapped on old form. Also similar on A Toi Phil @ 50/1 over at Galway. The old boy could just surprise at a lively price with a decent claimer on board.
Yes - Too darn hot is too short, especially as the only 8 f race he has won was a Sandown maiden. With a few exceptions this crop of 3yo's are a moderate bunch. How poor was this years Derby? That said the older horses don't look up to much, but now that ZABEEL PRINCE is back to his optimum trip he could be the E.W. value at 20/1,however there could be a problem, which is why I won't be backing him. He a horse that has a decent stride on him which means he is best suited to a flat galloping track, his six wins have been at Nottingham,York,Doncaster,Yarmouth,Longchamp, and the undulating Rowley mile. The idiosyncratic Goodwood will be something that he has yet to experience and he may become unbalanced.
Betway offering money back on losers first race at Goodwood today. I went to stick a tenner on and I am limited to £4.56, unbelievable.
Galway 18,10 Ena Baie 8/1 19,20 Pravalaguna 22/1 e/w (5 places) 20,00 Cosmic Horizon 6/1 And just for fun and very little bet 17,40 Dawn Raider 40/1 e/w (5 places)
Too Darn Hot down to Evs with one bookie (generally 11/10). Not good value. Not sure beating Space Blues over 7f is a major boost to his form but he did win easily in a decent time. Wouldn't surprise me to see him beaten by Circus Maximus and/or Philip of Spain (although the latter would be suited by faster ground). If it is a strong gallop I think TDH might just be found out near home, otherwise he could do it with his turn of foot. We shall see. Frankie seems capable of anything these days. Too short a price to get involved in my view
after my success yesterday with a Stradivaius. Pinatubo double I will be going for a LIBERTY BEACH/ TOO DARN HOT double today. in the Sussex Stakes I think LORD GLITTERS is also a stand out each way bet though. 1.50 I really think this race is between the top two in the betting - Lil Rockerfeller was hugely impressive in winning this last year, but has a big weight increase this year. I am leaning towards DUBAWI FIFTY though, with a good 2nd on return to action at Newcastle recently. With the form jockey Daniel Tudhope on board I am sure he will go close. 2.25 2 outsiders in this race appeal. FUTURE INVESTMENT at 11/1 with the impressive young jockey Harry Bentley and PERSIAN MOON at 20/1 with PJ McDonald riding. He can do no wrong at the moment. (16/1 and 12/1 winners here yesterday and a 25/1 and 14/1 winners at Ascot on Saturday) 20/1 therefore does not put me off! 4.10 PJ McDonald again on board MIGHTY SPIRIT
Todays Goodwood selections 1:50 - Lil Rockerfeller 2:25 - Sir Ron Priestley 3:00 - Hand On My Heart 3:35 - Circus Maximus 4:10 - Mrs Bouquet 4:45 - Mannaal 5:55 - Blackheath Good luck to all who play...
Durston is my main pick today. He looks progressive and overcame trouble in running to win last time. He stays well and is a hold up horse who we will hopefully see delivered on time by Jamie Spencer. Luck will probably play its part but I feel there is more to come from Durston and I reckon he can lift this and continue to come forward. 2.25 Goodwood Durston 13/2 Liberty Beach is a filly who impressed me in the Hilary Needler at Beverley and I did her each-way at 25/1 with the five places at Royal Ascot. She seemed to be on the wrong side of the track that day, winning the race on her side and I then missed her when an easy winner dropped in class next time. She faces Wesley Ward's Maven but the form of his narrow win in France has not worked out with the runner up stuffed twice since. Maven seems ominously weak today and I will take Hand On My Heart for the forecast with Clive Cox booking Ryan Moore for his once raced filly who is open to plenty of improvement. 3.00 Goodwood Liberty Beach/Hand On My Heart SF In the 4.10 race Mighty Spirit has lots of good bits of form but is still a maiden. I prefer Mark Johnston's Toronado filly Mrs Bouquet at double the odds. Mrs Bouquet is starting to find her feet and has that winning form I prefer. Two nursery wins look solid and she should go well. 4.00 Goodwood Mrs Bouquet 4/1
I thought Durston was coming to win comfortably there but once again a Johnston runner finds more in front. Good effort from Durston though. Sir Ron Priestly was weak in the betting earlier in the day, touching 11/1 in places but he was backed and keeps his winning going apart from the one very poor effort at Royal Ascot when fancied. He was backed for the St Leger after today's win but he will need to come on a bit yet for that contest, although it is not really Group 1 class now. Liberty Beach travelled well and then got into a bit of bother but she won with enough in hand there. Hand On My Heart had early toe but faded disappointingly. Maven was a typical Wesley Ward who didn't last home. He had only narrowly beaten Jolie who went on to beaten by A'Ali and was then gubbed by Andre Fabre's Earthlight who is not as well known in the UK yet but he is probably only behind Pinatubo and alongside O'Brien's Armory in the leading juveniles of the season. Timeform rated both Earthlight and Armory on 110p after their recent wins.
