He was complete Gash, lets be honest, McNulty has to start, Grigg to me looked like he never wanted to be here, still doesn't .
    McNulty and Big Charlie please.:emoticon-0128-hi:

Whilst I agree Grigg was poor (understatement), he didn’t cost us promotion by any stretch. Maja was much more to blame than Grigg. Our inability to close out games when in front cost us too. You can’t blame Grigg fir that. The midfield and defence being too shaky once ahead

Not that I've heard but you'd have to fancy our chances of picking him up cheap if it goes well, think his relationship with Reading is poor.

Just read that Ross sees him as playing behind a striker rather than leading the line solo which could be interesting.

I haven't seen Grigg have good game yet, hasn't even resembled a footballer , he didn't deliver at all and that cost us promotion, Maja ? are you on drugs ? :1980_boogie_down:

Or worrying, if this striker he is talking about is Will Grigg.

I’d imagine he’s alluding to him unsettling the team and leading along like he was gonna sign. We then had to react and took an injured Grigg in desperation.

More Maja’s agent I’m sure of course.

I think people need to back Grigg for a few games, everyone is desperate to write him off, and we wonder why we get knocked back by players. Fans have a reputation for ripping into players. Back the lad. If he doesn’t turn up first 10 games, with no injury excuses etc, then fair one.

We kick off in 5 days. We start from scratch, that should go for every player in the squad as well.

Where would we have been without Majas goals though?
He never got a sniff the previous season under Coleman and seeing what he did in the time we had him in league 1, he would surely have made an impact and maybes kept us up in the Championship. However he stayed with us and finally got his chance in a lesser league. I dont blame the lad for moving on, he owed us nothing.

Oh aye, wasn’t my comment mate. Just wish the lad had stuck around at least until seasons end. I’ve little doubt we’d be Championship now as he was scoring all kinds of goals, even when the midfield was creating now he could just turn and bang.

Where would we have been had he stayed? I think comfortably winning the league. I blame him for not wanting to play football. Not having an interest in playing the game and furthering himself. He’s probably played 2 games since leaving despite being told he wasn’t going to be first choice. He knew he was first choice here and told the club he’d sign. Then changed his mind. It’s not him leaving more him telling us he was going to stay that rankles with me. Grigg has been awful I agree but to lay blame solely at his door when we simply couldn’t close out games is naive at best.

Defence was far more to blame for last season in my eyes, yet they’ve mainly escaped criticism and it’s all on Grigg and Wyke.

    Baffling.

He did get game time though mate. Granted it was from the bench mainly but he suffered a serious knee injury after 7 games which ended his season for them.

It's got to be a confidence thing with Grigg hasn't it? He's scored a lot of goals at this level and he's still young.

That’s my thoughts. Wasn’t fit when he signed, rushed in, crowd got on his back.

I remember everyone buzzing off him can’t remember the game we won 2-0 Grigg scored second I think and everyone was ‘looks a player’ etc, has a run of 4 without a goal and he’s a waste of space?

I hope he rams it down there throats. In my time it’s gone through player after player. Even Quinn got some grief early on as he got injured, then there was Richardson, Kenwyne, Sessegnon. All got it. And many more.

Grigg has to step up, fair, but he’s already being hung, drawn and quartered. Boo boys had already made their minds up on Wyke and disregarded him start scoring and being a massive contributor as weeks went by.

Aye I think Grigg only had a few games at the end of the season where he wasn't injured so although I'm obviously not convinced by him equally obviously he deserves a chance. It's fine lines in football, swap out Cattermole for Dobson and Honeyman for McNulty and who knows how the chemistry of the team will be affected.

Like you say about Grigg we all saw that he has quality and an eye for goal, he's far from a lost cause.

To this day I've no idea at all why we didn't just tell them they could have him but only if they loaned him back to us for the rest of the season. Thousands of deals are structured that way, and it would have benefited all parties involved:

    1. We get to keep our star striker, almost certainly go up, save a few mil on Grigg and can shop for better in the summer in a more reasonable market.
    2. They get a player arriving with a shed-load more experience and, probably, confidence. Their manager was clear from the off that he was only a backup / youth team player at first.
    3. Maja gets a load more experience, and saves face with the SAFC faithful.

I genuinely have no clue why we didn't do that.

The same reason as we saw Oviedo leave for nothing today and big money singings like Lens, Khazri and Ndong leave for next to nowt. Other clubs bend us over and screw us. It happens time and time again.

I’ll never know till I die how we lost money on Khazri.

Already proven in France, showed he was capable of playing PL, goes back to France, great season, multiple clubs interested and we take a £4million loss?

    Absolute madness that was.

Grigg, and every player, has to take responsibility and put in the effort.

Of course we need skill, class, etc but perspiration comes before inspiration.

It's no good the players doing what us supporters do and thinking McGeady will do it every time.

We need to graft our way into games, get hold of the ball and then play our football.

Do that and we'll demoralise the opposition time after time.

No one hopes Grigg comes good more than me, but I dont understand the excuses presented in his defence, mystery injury, not getting the right service etc. Watching him, I have yet to see him raise a sweat, or get across a defender in the box, he strikes me as a lazy, disinterested player, Jozy Altidore style. This is my opinion, and I'll shut up when he starts to banging goals in, it is what he is paid for, after all.
