Anyone know anything about Todd Lane? Seems we've signed him, on loan, from Chelsea. A quick search and I see he's been at Chelsea for 8 years, almost entirely out on loan. 0 appearances for them.
Kane - played a shedload of games for Hull last season, so has plenty of Championship experience. And I believe he's on a permanent, 3-year deal
Right you are. Rejected staying at the scum and letting the years slip away, and has instead seen the light and signed for us.
Where has all this money come from? How does it square with FFP? Are we going to get fined again? confused.com (but quite pleased too!)
We haven't spent any money have we? As far as I'm aware, of the 14 (?) incoming, only Kelly the goalkeeper cost anything and that was £50k, I think.
My Stoke tickets have just arrived, so starting to get really excited about the new season and seeing the revamped team in action Anyone else going? COYRs
Gareth Bale (who cost Real Madrid £85m and ‘earns’ £650k a week on a contract which still has three years to run) was too distressed to join his team mates as they prepare for a game against Spurs because Madrid refused to give him a free transfer to a Chinese team where he would ‘earn’ even more. Ahh, bless, little poppet. You have to assume that he doesn’t really care about playing football if he was ready to go to China, so I don’t understand why he doesn’t just sit on his arse for the next three years and take the cash in Madrid. Perhaps it would give him the time to learn some Spanish, which he hasn’t bothered with so far, or, more likely, improve his golf.
Desperate waste of talent - either sitting on the bench in Madrid or playing in China Sadly he has so much money that football clearly means less to him now than it should Plenty of other examples elsewhere too (Sanchez), and We've been hoodwinked by more than a few in previous seasons....
This is what Holloway said when he arrived "He has got a fantastic work ethic, he gives us an attacking threat, and he has got versatility as well, which is so important in the modern game.”
it would appear that the Championship was a step up too much. Hopefully, Wycombe will give him the opportunity for his career to push on.
I read it was because Real were not getting a transfer fee. At a million a week, you'd have thought he could pay that himself! Crazy world of elite football.
Have we concluded our incoming business for this transfer window - anyone got an inside track on this?
As Stroller says, we've paid £50k for Kelly and nothing else in transfer fees. Where the arithmetic is more complicated (i.e. hidden) is the change in the total payroll (i.e. wages). However, that, too, looks favourable: at the moment it's 14 in and 11 out which is almost in balance. More importantly, we know that some of the 11 outgoings were on relatively high wages: eg Bidwell, Freeman, Lynch, Cousins, Wells, Hemed and big Mathieu Smith (Millwall initially baulked at his wages). Of course, there is also likely to be some loan fees to be paid but, nevertheless, overall, I reckon we might have actually reduced costs by a worthwhile amount and got ourselves a potentially very useful squad in the process. Like others, I'm starting to get excited.... but don't expect them to gel within a game or two; patience, people, patience.
According to WLS we do have some money to "invest" and have made a bid (rejected) of close to £3 million for the Aberdeen CD McKenna. Supposedly funded from the players sold this summer, Freeman mainly.
