Yeah I think we'll be seeing a lot of Dobson this season. It's such an important position and we've failed to fill it since M'Vila and Kirchhoff but I'm getting the vibe that Dobbo will be a key player.
Lack of creativity is showing as we've barely scored a goal. Number 10 is essential for me before the window shuts or else I think we're gonna see a lot more 1-1s again this year.
5-3-2 3-4-3 3-5-2 however you dress it up is ****ing awful and leaves us light in attack with no width in the final third. I'm behind Ross but if this is his preferred system this year they have to hit ground running or its p45 in the post Jackie lad.
I've seen some cracking goalless draws, similar to snooker where a quality safety exchange is usually better viewing than a clearance. Won't do us any good though. I know it's only friendlies but Ross needs to have a think about how to create more chances, he might be setting us up too conservatively.
I agree, all the exciting 0-0 draws in the world won't get us promoted. I just like that statement. I think he'd maybe be better going back to the 451/433 of last season but we need a decent number 10. In fact, a decent number 10 might help the 343/3421 along a bit better too.
Aiden might be the man he's waiting for to play him through the middle? I wouldn't do that personally, I like him on the wing cutting inside causing havoc that way.
It's a shame that we're thoroughly stifled by the wage bill because with one or two quality additions we could look totally different, the basics are there but there's a lack of creativity. If it was me I'd go top heavy and play a 451 with the three behind Grigg not having to track back much. I think a CM pairing of Dobson and O'Nien would have enough energy to cover any gaps as well as carry the ball forwards.
I reckon that could be quite likely actually. I like him on the wing too but as he's getting older maybe JR sees moving him inside as a good idea. I think that's what I'd probably go for too. Although I'd want the number 10 to dig in a little bit when needed to make sure we're not outnumbered in midfield
The silence on here confirms one thing to me. (and a 6500 attendance) No one is excited - and our drab football continues from last season. Other forums are calling it out, we create nowt and people are turned off by Ross's football. Hopefully he has a plan, no one wants change as with Arthur Daley at the helm we are fooked, he has no money and people are turning on him and Methvan, maybe not on here but they are. Ross has to play the hand he is dealt but we are boring to watch and our support won't put up with that. How long do you think he'll get off our support ?
Its pre-season. We've got several new signings, several players that have come back from loan or been promoted into the first team, and there could be more changes in the make up of the team. We could look very different in a couple of weeks time.
I hope so, it was the general feeling there yesterday, not many have your optimism and having supported them for 49 year we need a lift to kick start this.
Things have been very low key this summer and maybe some high profile signings would have made people feel better. The prevaricating over the takeover/investment had made things feel a bit flat too I suppose. The truth is, we weren't that far off promotion last season and we've certainly improved the squad.
Exactly. Win the first game and things might look different. Problem is, I think he's still not sure what his best 11 is.
