CALEB EWAN 9/4 Tour de France Stage 21
The final stage of the tour isnt really a proper race. The yellow jersey holder is merely doing a lap of the Champe Elysee quaffing champagne while the team sprinters have a barging match to see who can triumph in the sports famous finishing stretch. There may be 180 odd runners going to post but realistically this is a four horse race. Caleb has won two sprints in this years tour and proved in Nimes that he is the ace sprinter in the pack at the moment. He won at Nimes by a pretty cosy length and provided his team deliver him to right position on the run in he will surely win again.

I've really enjoyed the tour this year, and Caleb should have more stage wins than he has, a couple of times in the first week he was either caught out of position or didn't get a clear run in the final sprint (stages 7 and 10). I agree with you that he is the best sprinter in this pack, but will he get the rub of the luck? 9/4 seems fair enough doesn't it.

One last chance for EAST to show she is a good filly. Today at Deauville she Has a good draw and underfoot conditions to suit - the only slight negative is that Ryan Moore has replaced Spencer. This may be due to the fact that she has changed hands and is now owned by the Japanese who, coincidentally, bought the Mackem bullett I will be having a sentimental score at 10/1

Right so some possible information here. And in the interest of following Sir Barney's rules here's full disclosure.

A friend and ex colleague of mine does occasional work as a steward at football matches and race meetings. Yesterday he was working at York and got talking to a lad who rides out for Aiden O'Briens yard. He asked him if he had any tips for him and the lad told him to back a horse called South Sea Pearl running at Goodwood next Saturday. Asked how confident he was, the lad said the stable (he wasn't specific who that included) would be lumping £100,000 on it to win. Pocket change to that yard I know but still a decent amount.

May be something, might be nothing, thought I'd share but we're all adults and able to make our own choices.

Barney hopefully I've included enough to get away with passing on the 'info'.

Surely Laurens wins today and is too good for this field in the Rothchild at Dueaville.

Having watched the King George a few more times, I think we may have exaggerated just how much went against Enable in the heat of the moment.

Yes Frankie wanted to get across but the pace was too hot and sensibly he took back and tried to slot in, he eventually gets his spot beside Waldgeist and tracking Crystal Ocean, she then dropped in behind Waldgeist and the top 3 were indian file, she was only ever 1 path wider than Crystal Ocean at any stage and the top 3 were close to each other all the way.

So it wasnt ideal or the original plan but she can sit anywhere in a race and it was easy enough for Dettori to react to the way the race developed, still a great performance.

I saw somewhere yesterday that the calculations suggested that she went 3/4 lengths worth of distance more than Crystal Ocean.

The Prix Rothschild looks like a three horse race on the book as I cannot give any of the three year olds much chance as collateral evidence to date shows that they are a mediocre bunch.

Pascal Bary’s Frankel filly Obligate comes here unbeaten after winning the Prix Sandringham on the Prix Du Jockey Club card at Chantilly but the British trained runners in that were rated 98 and 94; and were less than two lengths behind.

The home challenge appears to be led by last year’s winner With You, although Freddie Head has fitted her with a visor for the first time after her complete flop in the Prix d’Ispahan first time out.

Move Swiftly steps up to the top table here after her victory in the Duke Of Cambridge but that form is totally reliant upon accepting the runner-up Rawdaa’s previous form at face value and the fourth Veracious subsequently winning the Falmouth on quick ground (Beshaayir fifth).

LAURENS comes here with the best career record but having needed the Lockinge as a warm up, she underwhelmed in the Queen Anne against the boys. Now back against her own sex, she really has to win today or her season is over. If she wins, she could come back for another crack at the boys in the Prix Jacques le Marois.

Did they show a head-on view on the last 2 furlongs on TV? I was wondering whether Enable (Dettori with his whip in left hand all the way home) had tightened Crystal Ocean up a little between the furlong pole and the 1/2 furlong marker. Maybe just looked that way and I don't think it stopped his momentum.

I've not seen another angle but it seemed to me that Crystal Ocean had plenty of space throughout the final couple of furlongs.

As I have said in my earlier post,I have not given up on East. In retrospect it was wrong to have run her on good to firm, ground that she was totally unsuited to . Today the ground is reported to be on the heavy side coupled with a good draw I expect he to run to the form that she showed in the french 1000. You maybe right that Laurens is better against her own sex but I fear that the hard races that she has had during her career may have taken the edge off her. also don,t forger the weight allowance that East gets.

    pontefract,3 20:

FIREWATER showed great gusto to win last time out,and the second has scored again since,so although this looks a stronger contest today, and hes up 4 lbr,can go well again.decent e w value, for a top yard.
