Following on from Mon mentioning The Hitcher I wondered if you lot liked your horror fillums. Not such a huge fan myself but this is such a popular genre I am genuinely* interested in what sort of horror you like to watch. I'd like to declare that Event Horizon scared the f.uck out of me at the pictures. I do like the old RKO horrors like Dracula, Frankenstein etc but more for the kitsch value than for the scare factor. *not very
Intetesting(not very) you mention this. I wouldn't called The Hitcher a horror film. When when people say horror films, I generally think about supetnatural stuff, which I don't like. I suppose though, the likes of Hallowe'en and Nightmare on whatever street weren't supernaturals but would be classed as horrors? I remember watching Hellraiser many years ago and did I not like that?? No, I did not.
Nightmare on Elm street. Dead psycho kills people in their dreams. Aye, nuffing supernatural about that Iain. Ya fùcking carrot .
I think The Hitcher went beyond the normal thriller though, may not be a true horror in the normal sense but certainly a shocker. Like all film genres Horror has splintered off into a lot of niche offshoots and there are psychological (didn't even spell check that one) slasher, hauntings, witchcraft etc. Speaking of which/witch I have to say The Blair Witch Project was the most pointless and poorly made film I've ever sat through. I know it was meant to only cost the equivalent of a bag of chips and went on to make millions but even then you couldn't tell where the money went. I guarantee they would have filmed on their I-phone if they had been around at the time. It actually might have been better if they did. Awful. The Japs appear to do a nice line in scaring the f.uck out of people, not sure if the Hollywood re-makes are any good in comparison.
I liked those Conjuring movies about those two spoofers Ed and Lorraine Warren. Quite atmospheric and unsettling in parts. I also liked Sabrina's "Boys, boys, boys"
The amityville horror scared me when I was a kid, need to watch it again. Halloween was pretty good. I like the 60s/70s films by hammer, tigon and amicus. As well as the heaving bosoms, they all did films comprised of several short stories which were quite funny. Tales that witness madness is my favourite.
