Great article by DDF looking forward to our opening game - https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/liverpool-pressure-ahead-of-opener-against-city-1-6149276 I think this sums it up pretty well - 'Arsenal, Chelsea and Bournemouth were all given cup scares during the earlier days of Farke's reign - and things have really kicked up a notch under the German's guidance since then, so the Canaries should not be underestimated.'
Article in EDP gives Norwich some hope, many Liverpool players will still be in need of a rest after International, Afcon, Champions League matches. before they play 7 friendlies, which include the likes of Dortmund, Lyon, Napoli, Sevilla & Sporting Lisbon followed by the community shield on August 4th (5 days before they play Norwich) against Man City. Hopefully their players will be tired before they play us and we will be able to catch them out cold https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spo...essure-ahead-of-opener-against-city-1-6149276 We gave Arsenal & Chelsea scares in the Cups, why can't we do it to Liverpool in the league?
Zimmerman out injured for 4-6 weeks with a knee injury, so that's Klose and Godfrey to start at Anfield you'd presume. Really frustrating he misses all of pre-season, but I've faith in his dedication that he'll catch up. With Hanley our only backup CB for that period, it probably puts any theoretical "3 CB" formations to bed for now, unless Bushiri/Famewo step up to the first team, or Raggett is recalled from loan.
Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri (striker), a Swiss international could be out of the opening game due to a torn calf, so hopefully evens it up on the injury front https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/liverpool-star-injury-1-6152004
Liverpool Sold Out!! https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/norwich-city-football-club-away-game-liverpool-1-6177302 #noshitsherlock
Wish our first game isn't against Liverpool, finding it hard to get excited about the start of our season lol. It's a game I think we won't win, but I'm just hoping we put in a good performance.
I think we have to think along the lines of a good performance rather than a result. Personally I would settle for a close ish defeat. 2-1 would do fine, 3-2 would be even better. A point would be fantastic.
Any point(s) against any teams likely to finish the season in European, or top 6/7 spots is not to be sneezed at. Though they'd be a bonus, it's the other 13 / 14 teams we need to be more focused on where we do have a genuine chance of points. I haven't done the maths, but if you assume that Virgil van Dyke cost twice as much as our entire squad put together, that helps pull things into sharp focus
Exactly how we have to look at it, though IF we suffer a heavy defeat, some 'fans' will most likely go into meltdown!!
I am excited and nervous in equal measure. To see us play at the top table vs Champs of Europe is a great starter. Liverpool will expect to win with some ease, but what I am looking fwd to is the praise that will be heaped on us for the style at which we lose 4-3 and how difficult we made it for them!
