Nah mate, winter is beautiful out of town. I love walking moorland with a good snow covering, Stanton in Derbyshire is one of my favourites.
I knew someone would respond with something like this. I can relate to that, but it's brief moments of pleasure during 4 months of ****e, usually overrun with frozen toes and cutting winds and daylight ending at 2pm.

Moaning about the weather, regardless of what the weather is, is the defining trait of the English. Even if the weather was absolutely perfect, we'd moan about it probably not being like it tomorrow.
Gets that hot every year here for most of the summer but it's different experience. EVERY building is air-conditioned and designed not to trap heat and every vehicle is air conditioned too. Now... Have snow fall here and I've seen dump trucks full of sand driving through town with a man stood in the back on the sand furiously shoveling sand out the back whilst it drives along... That's how small town Southern US deals with snow and ice.
