I do agree there’s a player in Gooch, when he’s good he’s a real handful. I’m not against giving him a try in there, just not convinced.

Somehow we’ve ended up with a whole raft of decent wide players, and no attacking centre mid.

As has been discussed seems McGeady could work in there, but in reality he, Watmore, McGuire, Gooch... all right sided wide players.

Weird imbalance we have, it’s not just those 4 either.

Think Gooch went downhill form wise when his partner gave birth, for whatever reason he never performed to any great standard after that.
Whether it was a lack of sleep or just a different dynamic in his private life in not sure.

Completely agree. For the record I don't think he will play centre midfield as I can't see Jack Ross trying it just something I would personally like to see.

Let's look at our central midfield options for this season.

    Power
    Robson
    Leadbitter
    Mcgeouch
    Honeyman
    Embleton

I look at all of those and think all good squad players. No one there stands out to say pick me. The one who did last season was Catts and obviously he ain't here anymore.

Admittedly I ain't seen a great deal of Robson or Embleton so my opinion on that may change as the season develops. Wierd conundrum for us to be in.

I left ONien out of that list as I think by the sounds of our 343 formation he is nailed on for the right wing back slot which is unfortunate as his energy would be good for us in the middle.

As far as I can see, it all points to Maja leaving and the change in approach that was brought about by that. It's the same with Honeyman. Maja was the key to the team in the first half of the season. Wyke and Grigg just don't contribute in the same way as he did.

You may well have hit the nail on the head there. The way I always saw Maja was someone who was pointless on the pitch anywhere except the penalty box where he was a quality 1 or 2 touch finisher. The more I think of it his movement was quality and he always occupied the 2 Centre halves giving the likes of Gooch Maguire and Honeyman more space to do there work. With Wyke defenders know he's not gonna spin and run in behind them leaving one spare to pick up runners from midfield. Griggs movement was also very limited to straight up and down which im hoping this was more of a fitness issue. Get some clever movement from our front man and these other lads may well reproduce some of the form we saw early on last season.

I don't see them contributing at all, and would love to see the back of both.
