Picking Muto and other players Rafa left out is a smart move, first the win brings in good vibes but then you will have these individuals buzzing they got a chance. They will go into the back happy with the manager and that little vibe will spread. They might not have considered that but it will happen.
I thought we played quite well throughout given the circumstances (friendly), how far we are in to our prep (not very) and the number of changes made throughout the game. A win is a win and it will be good for the lads to get that under their belts before they head home to step things up ahead of the season. I think in Sorensen, Longstaff (M), Lazaar and Aarons we have some potentially decent players there who can all make a stake for a place in the squad with the change of manager if they can be given some game time. Bruce might just be the man to start bringing through some of these youngster and developing them and potentially we could have a few more Sean Longstaff’s on our hands. Regardless of that we need an out and out goal scorer who will get us 15-20 goals a season so that has to be the priority for me I feel. We have an abundance of defensive and midfield options, enough to furnish two reasonable teams really, we need to start making inroads at the business end of the pitch now, it’s long overdue and a massive priority with Rondon and Perez going.
Did Matty look better that his brother? As the takeover isn't going to happen, I'd be content with a season that isn't a relegation battle where we bring through some youth players
All clubs are at a different stage of their preparation, using a mix of first-team and squad players, so it's hard to tell. They gave away the ball a lot, but you can guarantee they will spend money. The thing with West Ham is they always look disjointed, and seem to be good at spending money on injury prone or fundamentally useless players. They have their day, just like us, but I always consider them more inconsistent. It wouldn't surprise me if they finished 9th, or if they finished 19th.
I've always seen West Ham as the London club version of Newcastle the past few years. But they spend more money... on ****ing ****e players. We spend little money on alright players.
We played well but I can't see how the likes of Lazaar or Aaron's will ever be good enough for a Premiership squad - especially when they've barely broken into the lower league teams they've been on loan at. Thought Sorensen and M.Longstaff looked promising but could do with a loan next season. We're still 2 attackers short of what we had last season (with Gayle replacing Joselu). These needs to be replaced. We then still need 2-3 starting eleven players to be 'on par' with what other clubs are doing. Even with 90 million (not that I buy it) I don't see how we're not in for a long old season. I'm not completely pessimistic though as we have a solid defence and talented players in Longstaff and Almiron.
Say Sky Sports listing some decent free players, Welbeck for free (which will make ACS **** himself to death probably), Gary Cahill, Charlie Austin. Someone asked which would you go for Austin or Joelinton , I'd go for both there wages wont be too high. Of course, you run the risk of tumbling out of the prem with a bunch of hasbeens like West Brom did. It's a double edge sword. I'd go for Austin personally, he wasn't great for Southampton but honestly they are ****ing ****e. Can hardly blame him, when he gets service he's lethal.
Is Austin better than Gayle? Probably. Is Austin better than Joselu? **** yeah. No brainer for me like. I've always quite liked the lad, always seems to do a solid job and generally scores goals wherever he goes. If we get Joe Linton in I would be happy to see Sturridge, Welbeck or Austin come in on a freebie as well. Out of the 3 of those Austin's wages would be the cheapest I reckon but if the other two aren't asking for silly money then I'd be tempted like. They shouldn't be, they're free for a ****ing reason so they're not really in a position to be picky like. Having said that, with Charnley's history of negotiations he'll probably offer them 50p a week +10p per goal bonus and ****ing massive sports direct mug full of dunlop socks.
I'm concerned by the links to Austin, Carroll and Welbeck personally. You'd be lucky to get a full season out of all three put together! I'd rather we gambled on a Joelinton. If we had to add one more, go for Welbeck. I'd take Welbeck regardless personally, always rated him.
I think that's it. If we start the season with one of those, Muto and Gayle then we're in trouble. If it's Joelinton, Austin, Muto and Gayle then it's not ideal but it's ok
I just think he needs a chance. Whether he'll be good enough is not a question that can be answered by anyone, including NUFC, until he's had a fair crack of the whip. Too often fans are writing off players and showing a lack of patience. Perez is a good example of player who looked tosh when getting 5mins here and there, or playing in positions ill suited. Once we found a way to use him, and he adapted somewhat to the physicality, then he looked better. Not 30m better but certainly a PL standard footballer. Muto has barely kicked a ball. He's been injured, away with the Japanese squad, and then had to watch as Rondon/Perez formed a partnership. If we are writing off players without actually playing them, we'll be on a slippery slope. The previous manager, who plenty fans have weirdly turned into some fake demi-god, was the one who rated Muto enough to sign him, and spoke of him making a big contribution when he adapts. You'd think the same fans who want Rafa's gizz on their chops would be decent enough to give a guy he rated a chance. I'm sure there will be a knacker along soon to claim Rafa didn't rate him and he was his 8th choice or the usual bullshit...
