  1. "Alexa - who won the 3-45 at Newton Abbott?"
"I don't know but it wouldn't have been yours as you cannot tip **** out of a bucket"

I've read articles about Alexa listening in and they all basically rehash the same handful of stories, the couple in Portland, a grandmother putting her grandchild to bed and maybe an anecdotal story. They all confirm that Amazon held the recordings and they weren't recorded in secret nor did they have any problems getting the recordings. If these people had read the information that comes with the Echo they would know that. Nobody has yet come up with a secret stash of recordings or been able to prove that they didn't turn the device on themselves. I think owners of the device are shocked that it records what you are saying to it simply because, as I've said a few times now, they didn't read the information that came with it.

For every article about Alexa listening in there are at least 100 about your mobile phone listening in. You even posted your own story about Appeltiser, which was kind of creepy btw that a 'private' conversation you had wasn't actually private. I read a story about a girl complaining to her boyfriend that she had a headache, she woke up the next day to find she'd been followed on her Twitter account by a migraine support group. There are hundreds of stories like this.

As I said yesterday, the added risk with your phone and invasion of privacy is that you take your phone everywhere with you. 'They' know where you are as well as every word you speak. And people are worried about Alexa. .... :bandit:

    I agree.

    The phone is an issue.

But I'm doing what I can to limit the intrusion instead of opening myself up to more.

I'm paranoid about my privacy so tbh I've surprised myself in terms of not being worried about Alexa and whether or not it's listening to my every word. Again, I've surprised myself by not caring if it is. It isn't registered to my email address or name so it's as anonymous as it could be. Even if a recording of my voice popped up somewhere it couldn't be linked to me.

I won't use biometric security on my phone because I don't want my fingerprint or iris image held in stored data about me. I don't use any social media - this site is the closest I get to that. I won't use contactless payment because I don't want my bank details readily available on my phone etc. etc.

On the other hand, the capability of my phone to store and use my personal information scares the wits out of me.

Certain stock apps like maps constantly run in the background. Can't do that if you don't have it.

  11. Hey, Commie! Here’s a suggestion for you.

How about lifting your lazy arse off the sofa, walking to the light switch, extending a digit, and switching the light on/off - old school, yeah?

Glad to have saved you some cash, pal. Don’t thank me.

  13. My Chav mate has Alexa. We got pissed one night and spent an hilarious hour asking her all kinds of perverted stuff, like “Alexa! Play me some animal sex noises!”

Imagine our surprise when Tom Jones popped up, singing “What’s New, Pussycat?”

I suppose the bit where he sings “Woah, a-woah! A-woah-a!” kinda fits the bill.

You would know you pikey ****.

Setting up an unusual routine for lighting does put people off that may be casing a house.
