The three positions Bristol City are still looking to recruit in and who might arrive Robins embark on final recruitment raids Bristol City returned to the UK at the weekend and players and staff will have enjoyed a couple of days break before the Robins move on to play Forest Green Rovers on Wednesday night. As Lee Johnson begins to fine-tune his side for facing Crystal Palace on Saturday - a game that will show the head coach's hand as he names his strongest Bristol City team to aid cohesion - there is still some final work to do in the transfer market. "We are still working, there are still three weeks of the window remaining, I fully expect another one, maybe two ideally three to come through the door," Johnson told us on Friday. So what are those three positions and who could come in? Our writer rounds up the final work to be done... Main spearhead striker The aim is to provide competition for Famara Diedhiou for that no.9 main spearhead role. Arguably, since the sale of Milan Djuric last summer the Robins have been short of one further physical presence up front to either take Diedhiou's place or replace him if injured or suspended. City have long held an interest in Kieffer Moore of Barnsley and believe that the powerful forward would be a good addition to the Robins squad, but Moore is not City's first target according to our sources. The Robins also like Lucas Joao of Sheffield Wednesday who Johnson would have to work with on the training pitch to improve his hold-up play with. Meanwhile, Jordan Hugill is another long-term target, although his wages at West Ham make the chance of a transfer difficult, while Wigan Athletic also have a strong interest in the player. Second striker Less of a priority is a quality second striker to compete with Andi Weimann and Antoine Semenyo, with the young prospect set for plenty more first team chances this season. Eddie Nketiah is the main target but the Robins must await Arsenal's return from the US and internal discussions as to whether the Gunners talent would benefit from regular first-team football better than sitting on the Gunners bench and making sporadic appearances. If the Gunners recruit another forward then Nketiah will be allowed to develop elsewhere temporarily. Other targets include the unlikely Britt Assombalonga, who would be expensive and might only arrive if there were further sales at City of key players, and Scott Hogan, another long-term target who may be allowed to leave Aston Villa this summer despite scoring for the Villans against Shrewsbury Town at the weekend. If a second striker comes in then our information is that Matty Taylor will be sold. Saikou Janneh is likely to go on loan with interest from some League One and Two clubs. Central midfield Finally, the Robins still hope to add another central midfielder to their ranks - although Tyreeq Bakinson is set for further first-team opportunities and Liam Walsh has shown flashes of his potential in pre-season. Long-term target Joe Williams is being monitored with Everton giving the 23-year-old pre-season to impress Marco Silva, while a loan for former Robin Herbie Kane will be considered. The Robins will have considered Kyle Scott, formerly of Chelsea, but the midfielder is still expected to join Newcastle United this summer after leaving the Blues following the end of his contract. While the future of Callum O'Dowda must be resolved too - and could add some more funds to the budget - or tie down a key asset for the season ahead. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...ws/three-positions-bristol-city-still-3120603
So to break that down, our suggested targets are ~ Main Spearhead Striker Kieffer Moore Lucas Joao Jordan Hugill Second Striker Eddie Niketiah Britt Assombalonga Scott Hogan Central Midfield Herbie Kane Joe Williams Kyle Scott I wonder how many out of that 9 we will end up with, a good selection but will it suit LJ?
I reckon, although unlikely nick it you, if secured would be first name on sheet for attack! and Fammy WOULD BE ROTATED WITH Weimann as a starter! most likely Joao ..!
Now you've done it. If we don't end up with all 9 @Red Robin will be panicking and telling everyone we've failed and have no ambition
Have a gut feeling two strikers in and one out, that being Matty Taylor. Main Spearhead Striker Kieffer Moore Lucas Joao --------Yes please Jordan Hugill Second Striker Eddie Niketiah Britt Assombalonga ----Any one of these would amazing Scott Hogan Central Midfield Herbie Kane Joe Williams --------- Any of these would be excellent. Kyle Scott
None of the 'Spearhead' strikers fill me with that much optimism, to be honest, it worries me we would be come a very one dimensional 'Warnock' style hoof ball, as reverted to at times with Durjic and throwing Flint up top. The young lad from Arsenal is the standout, I believe he would complement Fammy and the team perfectly, just as Tammy Abraham did, I'll take a fox in the box striker over a 6'7 striker all day long!! I like Britt Assombalonga, just not at upwards of £15m and £50k per week, he simply isn't worth it when you look at his goals per game ratio in the Championship, he is well enough established now to be doing better than this for that sort of money.
I would go for the youngsters, the lad from Arsenal would be first on my list, the second would be young Herbie Kane, was with city as a youngster with young lads I think you get 100% commitment that will do for me.
I gotta say i thought Semenyo looked disinterested last season when given game time and was way off the pace.
Would Lucas Joao prove an upgrade on Famara Diedhiou and fire Bristol City into the play-offs? Lucas Joao has been linked with a move to Ashton Gate, but what might he bring to the Robins? https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/bristol-city-lucas-joao-transfer-3123433
Seeing as the Wednesday fans say he’s good in one out of five games. You was lucky to see those two games then Forest
