This is way above your station Sky. It's all coded these days... Terrorist 1: You gonna get some Sandisk? Terrorist 2: Yeh what's the root to Buck Palace? Terrorist 1: True dat, gonna have me some Fire HD ya get me!
It's funny isn't it that people are worried about something that's not been proven to be listening to you without your knowledge yet happy to own and use multiple devices that have been proven to be covert information gatherers and privacy invaders.
I've discovered that I can access Alexa by saying "mylegsache" instead of "Alexa". So I go around saying things like "Mylegsache, set a time for 5 minutes". "Mylegsache, bed lights on 50%". "Mylegsache, pause TV" I almost never say "Alexa " anymore. The trick is to say MyLegsAche as one word.
I was sick one night and I said to the Mrs "My legs ache and I have a headache". Alexa lit up and ominously said "goodbye". Still not sure what she heard to make her say "goodbye" but it was funny at the moment... I tried to duplicate the call and response and couldn't... But did learn in the process that Alexa turns on when I say "mylegsache" as long as I say it fast and as one word. Now that's just what I call her.
I don't no the exact answers to your question on how its technically done but probably as follows: Its a form of big data - I imagine they have hardware that listens out to specifics products, buzzwords, phrases and stores that data. Big data definition which I feel is relevant is as follows: "Big data" is a field that treats ways to analyze, systematically extract information from, or otherwise deal with data sets that are too large or complex to be dealt with by traditional data-processing application software". Basically computers - or several of them collect the key data from tons of information available - like listening to key words and products within the waffle of everyday conversation.
If any of that was true wouldn't somebody have found some evidence to support it in the 5 years since Alexa has been released? Also, why are you okay with using whatever device you use to access the internet when we know without a doubt that your information is being collected and used via phones and computers but suspicious about a device were no proof has been found to back up your theory Edit: just re-read this, it sounds a bit aggressive, sorry, it's not meant to be. I'm doing two things at once.
As I've said I use a VPN when on the internet which means I can't be traced and the pages I look at cannot be tracked.
