    Mandron and Marshall are favourites.

Ok let's get the ball rolling with this one, because generally when I have an opinion it will go the opposite way and bring the Gills some luck.

So let's start with Mandron, quick glance at the picture of him and I thought we had just taken Barcham back! I genuinely did think he look like a young Andy for a second there.

But then you look at the stats, Barcham as a WINGER scored 17 goal in 89 games during his time at the Gills. Now look at Mandron a STRIKER he scored 12 goals in 85 games for Colchester!

I can tell @alwaysright is drooling at the NON goal potential here, and just to complete this chapter Tom Eaves scored 38 goals in one less total games than Mandron.

I've not even started on Marshall yet, also a WINGER i believe, 2 goals in 49 games for Charlton - oh please do me a favour is this really the best we can muster.

@Resurgam joked we had resigned Cody on a five year deal, well even @The Gills PegLeg would be pleased with that, at least he managed 15 goals every 50 games.

Btw any one know if Joe Martin is available <whistle>

I have just checked the career total (pre-Gills) for Tom Eaves:-
    24 goals in 145 appearances.
He came to us when he was 25 years old.

    The career total for Mandron:-
    29 goals in 157 appearances.
He has signed for us 3 months before his 25th birthday.

Oh did I mention that Tom Eaves is currently injured.

I can see @alwaysright being absolutely enthralled with them stats. Although i think the exact word i'm looking for is beguile (in a deceptive way).

The teams Marshall has played for have finished in the play offs in each of the last 4 seasons (twice with Bradford, twice with Charlton) and fans of both clubs have been happy with his contribution in those seasons.

brb - thanks for the numbers. I had decided to give grumpygit a 'break' -- after I had produced similar statistics with a couple of other signings Gills have made for the new season. My numbers on those occasions were just as 'negative' as the ones you have given for Mandron and Marshall.

Given that British politics is very topical this week, it reminds me of the well known saying about statistics and damned lies. Anyone can have their own interpretation on your figures ( and my previous ones ). I would usually say that the proof is in the numbers. McCammon was a poor striker - 5 goals in 3 years does not lie !................. however ---
When we took Tom Eaves, his goal scoring record was equally as unimpressive - and look what happened --- his total could / should have been a lot more - if only we had better players around him ( which I think that we have now got ) - and if he didn't spend so much time chasing the ball along the 'wings!'
My memories of Marshall are that he was a bloody nuisance every time Gills played against his teams. I don't expect him to 'fly' down the wings - but his quality and experience should be better than we've had for a while - and in conjunction with the abilities of the other 'attack-minded players in the squad, we could see a lot more opportunities for Mandron, or whoever is in the middle of the opposition box [[that's the theory ! ]].

I am under no illusion as to the standard of players we have recruited. They are in League 1 for a reason [ that is their level ! ]. Steve Evans has a very good record of success in League 1. Maybe he has the ability to extract the best out of 'ordinary' players. I hope he can achieve this at Gillingham -- because -- my honest opinion of our squad is that they appear ( on paper ), to be of a standard that should promise a great improvement on what we've had to suffer for the last 3 seasons. Maybe the bark that Evans employs, might produce the sort of results that we had with another mad dog.

Cheers mate, as you can tell I honestly know nothing about the lad, much like the rest of the team, but thanks for the info. I constantly rated Bradford, probably why they went down based on my knowledge. Quite looking forward to the new season tbph amd getting baited by my so called usual friends on here, they know who they are, in fact I'm on word count, to see how many times Hereford gets mentioned this season.
