To be fair as Charlie Austin is now worth £8m. Maguire must be worth £9m. Leicester simply misplaced the decimal point in their valuation.
West Brom close to sealing £1.5m deal with QPR for Darnell Furlong after seeing opening offer rejected https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...se-sealing-1-5m-deal-QPR-Darnell-Furlong.html I am gutted if this is true for this price!
We are ****ing mugs if we let him go. Bloke has the potential to be an excellent centre-half while we fanny about with Hall who is gone.
If we are resorting to selling players at this price, then we really must be cash strapped. Very disappointing!
Disappointing is an understatement However, I suspect that this will be the new norm - cycling players through the club when we can get a sensible (in the club's view) price The sad fact is that the majority of clubs run at a loss, and the cash just isn't there to buy and build. Nor will it be in the medium term future TV monies have led to incredible riches for many individual players / managers / agents at the top level, but without that money or substantial other commercial income it is a hand to mouth existence for many clubs The need to balance our books is now taking priority over longer term player investment sadly. I accept that
I might be alone on this one, but I've never been completely confident about Furlong. I don't think £1.5m would be an awful deal, and we could probably pick up someone just as good for half of that. I will hold off any judgement on this one until we see if the club has a decent replacement lined up for him at a lower price.
This reminds me of filling a bucket with a holes in it with water. A futile process! please log in to view this image
It'll certainly mean an end to Lumley hoofing the ball long onto Furlong's head - or rather the ball remaining in play 50% of the time with this tactic
If Furlong has not been able to establish himself as a regular first teamer by now, then surely £1.5 mill is a good deal? I only hope that there is a sell -on clauses attached. I am not sure what a good price for him would be but we need to take into account that (1) we haven't got any money, (2) SLF has said that every player is up for sale, (3) maybe Furlong doesn't want to stay and finally, (4) maybe Warburton doesn't want him
Whilst it would be disappointing to see Furlong go, it is an indication that the club is starting to get its act together. Gone are the days when we signed expensive has-beens or mainly released or 'sold down' players. Freeman going to Sheffield United for their Cardiff-City-single-season in the Premier League, plus interest in Darnell from the Throstles and Massivelyoverrated Luongo from elsewhere are good signs. I'd rather we were selling up and using the funds to buy a decent striker and/or the next uncut diamond from the lower divisions.
So the premier league money was squandered and now some of the same people who squandered it are trying to manage us out of the situation
He’d want to stay if the club acknowledged he was our best all-round centre-half and merited that accordingly. In the club’s defence, he seems to have this bizarre insistence that he’s a full-back.
I think £1.5m is a great deal for Furlong. Nice work. He will of course be much better at West Brom, but he hasn’t kicked on with us, after plenty of opportunity. We need two types of player - blokes who can do a decent job in the Championship, and youngsters who might, one day, have PL potential who we can sell for a profit.
19 year old Chelsea right back Dujon Sterling is possibly coming in on a season long loan ... https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...-sterling-rumours-gossip-latest-a9015536.html
I think I'm in the 'he hasn't kicked on enough' camp when it comes to Furlong so 1.5m might not be such a bad deal.
We need a striker more than a right back, Furlong is decent but never blown me away, £1.5m for a player who isn’t even a guaranteed starter isn’t too bad as long as we put a sell on clause in there. Hopefully the money will go with the Freeman money towards a half decent striker!
