hesgoal.com does work. If it lags, there's a refresh button under the screen. Had to refresh after 3 minutes, but after that it worked fine. Excellent through ball into Pukki's feet and he beat the defence and nutmegged the keeper. He then had 2 more good chances having been put through but first narrowly wide and for the 2nd keeper did well to just bat it out for a corner. Krul has made a couple of routine saves, holding on to the ball and the defence has been well organised, playing the ball out most of the time. Hanley and Godfrey are linking well and Max has been very sharp. Leitner and Trybull pairing well. So far, so good.
The pitch is in bad shape. Players slipping and clumps everywhere. Well maybe not as many clumps as I thought.
2-1 full time, with some of our best players not involved. Hopefully no injuries, but that's a good result. Looks like we were pressing hard too.
Not quite fair, good strike which spun off a defender and spun into the goal. Much of my comments for the first half carried through to the finish. Considering Schaulke are finishing their pre-season with this match, we were the better team overall and looked very fit for this stage of pre-season.
Great little result. Players like Emi missing. Shalke had a poor Season last year, but have Wagner now, with a point to prove and are a massive Club. Impressive result. I keep seeing GIFs of Roberts ball, and Pukki's goal. Which was class. Anyone seen a vid of the second goal?
I saw the second goal on the stream with a good close-up replay. Pukki cut the ball back to Leitner whose sliding shot spun off a defender and into the goal. DF also made some interesting tweaks to the formation towards the end: "With Aarons moving to left wing back and Byram down the right as Godfrey and Lewis flanked Hanley in a three. Another of City's late arrivals, Onel Hernandez, was foiled by Schubert in the closing stages when the keeper guessed correctly to block with an outstretched left leg. Adam Idah was the last City substitute and he would have had a tap in if Hernandez had squared earlier following a clever turn from the Republic of Ireland youth international. Schubert then denied both Trybull and Godfrey in a frantic finale." The 3 at the back was prompted in part by DF wanting to get more minutes for Byram, but I wonder whether we'll see that in the PL, especially when we have all of our CB's available. Up front Hernandez, Srbeny and Idah played the final 15 minutes. Hernandez's pace caused problems for Schaulke and Srbeny and Idah looked the part and Idah almost scored from Hernandez's pass back into the area. Can't help thinking Emi would have had a field day if he hasn't been ruled out by a knock, though he should get chances next week.
Brief summary of the short German workout which ended vs Schalke 04 last night. https://readnorwich.com/2019/07/19/schalke-1-2-norwich-four-things-learned/
This is typical of ReadNorwich. Lots of opinion without much to back it up. Having watched the whole match, I thought Cantwell looked a bit rusty, but it was his first start in the pre-season and he did ok. For me, his best position is as a number 10. Yes Hanley did get booked, but he had to intervene in a dangerous situation on the edge of the box. I thought he had a good game at the heart of the defence, as he did in previous matches. It was interesting that DF went to a back three towards the end with Hanley flanked by Godfrey and Lewis. He's obviously exploring new ideas for the PL. Leitner had a good game, but he hardly 'controlled the game in midfield'. DF was disappointed with our possession % as well as our spurned chances to score. It was pleasing to see Idah make another good cameo appearance, though and Hernandez looked sharp when he came on. Roberts was more involved this time and his through ball for Pukki's goal was a thing of beauty as was Pukki's nutmeg shot.
