    Paul Robinson Departs For Millwall

please log in to view this image

Paul Robinson has left Pompey’s coaching staff to take up a role with Millwall’s under-23 side.

The 37-year-old joined Kenny Jackett’s backroom team on a part-time basis last summer, while continuing his playing career with Havant & Waterlooville.

He previously spent the 2014/15 campaign at Fratton Park as a defender, making a total of 38 appearances.

Now Robinson returns to the club where he began his playing career, featuring more than 350 times for Millwall between 2001 and 2014.

Portsmouth Football Club would like to thank Paul for his contribution and we wish him all the best back at The Den.

Marcus Harness: Portsmouth sign Burton Albion winger

please log in to view this image

Portsmouth have signed winger Marcus Harness from Burton Albion on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Marcus Harness joined Burton as a teenager and went on to have loan stints with Ilkeston, Aldershot and Port Vale before establishing himself as a first-team player with the Brewers

Pompey also have a further 12-month option on the 23-year-old 6' tall Brewers academy graduate, who scored six goals in 39 games for Burton last season.

"He's got plenty of pace, can handle the ball and go past people," Pompey manager Kenny Jackett said.

"Marcus can play in any of those three positions behind the striker and is a really exciting signing for us."

PFC don-t need a central striker. Just play 3 wingers who interchange position all the time with one or two or them taking up a central position as an attack develops. With Pitman in a withdrawn striking position. Maybe Ollie Hawkins can play CB?

Or the creative midfielder the side desperately needs. For me, it would be Hesketh.

Barnsley complete signing of Coventry City's ex-Pompey striker Conor Chaplin

please log in to view this image

BARNSLEY have completed the signing of Coventry City forward Conor Chaplin, with the long-time Reds' target penning a four-year deal.

Chaplin, who the Oakwell club tried to sign last summer before he left Portsmouth for the Sky Blues, has arrived for an undisclosed fee.

It is understood that the fee could eventually be worth over £1million with potential add-ons.

Barnsley reportedly saw a £700,000 offer rejected for Worthing-born Chaplin by Coventry recently, but the Reds maintained their interest in the 22-year-old, who moved to the Midlands in a £500,000 deal in August 2018.

Good news is that Pompey should benefit financially from the sell on fee !!

There are 30 in the squad at the moment. That Will be 29 once Jamal has completed his ongoing transfer. I would expect Luke McGee, Joe Hancott, Bradley Lethbridge, Petar Durin and maybe Louis Dennis to either be transferred or on loan, which takes the squad to 24. That is a sizeable wage packet, and there was me thinking the owners are more prudent than previous ones. It is a bloated squad and the questions we have to ask is how many could step up to the Championship? If Hesketh could come I would be quite happy.

Report: West Ham, Chelsea and Ajax want Leon Maloney

please log in to view this image

Maloney has caught the eye after an outstanding campaign in Pompey's youth ranks. He scored 26 goals having predominantly played out on the wing, and he now has a host of clubs interested in signing him.

The Irish Sun reports that the Irons want to bring him to the London Stadium, while Chelsea, Fulham and Champions League semi-finalists Ajax are also monitoring his progress with one year left on his deal at Fratton Park.

The report notes that West Ham's scouts believe that the 18-year-old has the potential to be a top class player within the next two years, while the Eredivisie side are already hoping to get him working with the first-team if they can get a deal done

The list of clubs interested in Maloney highlights just how much potential he has. And while it may not be a signing that would immediately pay off for Manuel Pellegrini's first-team, it looks set to be a fantastic statement of intent if West Ham can now go on and win the race.

The Hammers go into this season with options who provide a lot of quality in the final third. And while Maloney would do incredibly well to break in ahead of them during the next 12 months if he did decide to join the Irons, they would perhaps be ideal players to learn from in the coming years as he gets closer and closer to realising his full potential.

Leon Maloney lives in Ryde on the Isle of Wight (probably a mile away from where I live !) and is a brilliant young prospect. We must try and hold on to him, rather than let one of the "big boys" steal him from us for a pittance :steam:

As we know, Jackett will be reluctant to give raw youth its chance.

Wonder if Lowe is hoping some club with a bit more charisma than either Wigan or Millwall, will try to secure his services. I would love him to come to Real Mallorca, and could see that working.

Trio of Pompey youngsters set to boost Bognor ranks

Bognor could have three Pompey youngsters boosting their squad this season.
They are set to secure the return of striker Brad Lethbridge, centre-half Joe Dandy and goalkeeper Petar Durin.

The trio, if their loans can be finalised, will add significant strength as boss Jack Pearce and coach Robbie Blake aim for a squad in which competition for places is hotter than ever.

Lethbridge scored 13 goals on loan at Nyewood Lane last season while Dandy and Durin each had very brief loan spells – Dandy’s having been ended early by an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season, and Durin used only when first-choice keeper Dan Lincoln was out.

Bognor boss Jack Pearce said the club had ‘near enough’ agreed with Pompey that Lethbridge would play for the Rocks again in their 2019-20 campaign. And he said Dandy and Durin were featuring in friendlies, including last night’s visit to Horndean, with a view to signing them on loan.

If the three stars – all aged just 18 – can be added to the Bognor squad, it will beef up numbers already looking good following the signing of another ex-Pompey duo, striker Dan Smith and midfielder Freddie Read.

PORTSMOUTH AND CHARLTON TO DO BATTLE IN RACE FOR 20-GOAL STRIKER.

please log in to view this image

League One Portsmouth could be set to do battle with Championship newboys Charlton Athletic as the race to sign Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis hots up.

According to the Daily Mail, the 20-goal striker is a wanted man this summer, with Pompey manager Kenny Jackett particulalry keen on adding the forward to his ranks.

However, Charlton have also thrown their name into the hat to sign Marquis, who has been a consistent goalscorer for Doncaster and played his part in firing the Yorkshire club to the play-offs last season where they subsequently lost out to the Addicks.

The 27-year-old will be well known to Pompey manager Jackett following their time together at Millwall, where Marquis failed to make a big impact on first-team affairs and was sent out on various loan spells, including a short time at Fratton Park.

Marquis could be keen to test himself at a higher level if Charlton do indeed decide to make their move, but it is Portsmouth manager Jackett who will be hoping to convince Marquis to make the move to his promotion chasing outfit as the transfer window nears it’s end.

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Moore will be desperate to keep hold of his star striker but is well aware of the spending power other clubs in the division have, meaning he could well be powerless to resist if a suitable bid is lodged for Marquis.

    The Verdict:

This would be a huge blow for Doncaster but likewise a massive gain for whoever signs him.

I’d personally like to see him in the Championship and challenging himself at a higher level having proved he can do it in the third and fourth tiers.

He’s a low risk signing for someone like Charlton, as if they do go down, they have a proven League One goal getter in the ranks anyway.

    Pompey Sign Marquis

please log in to view this image

Pompey have signed striker John Marquis from Doncaster for an undisclosed fee, of between £1 and 2 million.

The 27-year-old – who had a short loan spell at Fratton Park in 2013 – has penned a three-year deal, with a club option for a further 12 months.

Blues boss Kenny Jackett said: “I’m really pleased to work with John again after giving him his debut at Millwall.

“He’s a proven striker, who I believe is entering his prime, so it’s an excellent signing for us and we’re delighted.

“John’s got a great goal record, but is also an all-round striker, who will work hard for the team and can bring other people into the game.”

Marquis began his career with Millwall and was handed his professional debut by Jackett at Bristol Rovers in 2009.

He had several stints out on loan, including a two-month stay at Pompey in the first half of the 2013/14 campaign.

Marquis netted two goals in six appearances, grabbing a consolation in a 4-2 defeat at York and then scoring in an EFL Trophy win at Oxford.

He signed for Rovers in the summer of 2016 and struck 67 times in 153 appearances during three years in south Yorkshire.

Twenty-six of those goals arrived last term, as Doncaster suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to Charlton in the League One play-offs.

    Lowe Completes Wigan Switch

please log in to view this image

Jamal Lowe has completed a move to Championship side Wigan for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old winger scored 29 goals in 119 appearances during his two-and-a-half years at Fratton Park.

He arrived at Pompey from Hampton & Richmond in January 2017 and helped them secure promotion in his first season.

Lowe netted twice on a memorable day at Notts County that secured a spot in League One for Paul Cook’s side.

He also scored a stunning strike at Wembley back in March, as the Blues beat Sunderland on penalties to lift the EFL Trophy.

Blues boss Kenny Jackett said: “Everyone at Pompey wishes Jamal well at his new club and we thank him for what he achieved with us.”

    Dennis departs to Leyton Orient

please log in to view this image

Louis Dennis has joined League Two side Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old forward made eight appearances for Pompey after signing from Bromley last summer.

Most of his appearances came in the EFL Trophy, with his only Blues goal arriving in a last 16 tie at Southend.

Dennis’ impressive performance in that game saw him collect the competition’s Player of the Round award.

He also featured in a league loss at Oxford and both of the FA Cup ties against Queens Park Rangers.

Leyton Orient secured the National League title last season to return to the EFL following a two-year absence.

Everyone at Pompey would like to thank Louis for his contribution to the club and we wish him well for the future.

Will miss Jamal Lowe but good luck to him. I hope this move puts him on the road to getting to the top. He is an intelligent guy. I would loved to see him try his luck in La Liga. Real Mallorca would have been perfect for him.

I hope Louis Dennis goes on to be a huge success at Orient. Pity Jackett never gave him time to prove what he could do.

Thanks for posting Woopert´s. A plus and minus transfer window. The minus being the sales of Clarke and Lowe, and even Dennis. The plus being the signing of Marquis. As things stand we Will see if Downing and Ragget t can compensate for Clarke, and if Harness can do the same for the loss of Jamal. How Pompey line up, I do not know but I would go with a CF Marquis, attacking 3 of Curtis, Evans on the right, but these two can interchange, and Pitman, central pairing of Naylor and Close, and a defence of Bolton, Downing, Burgess and Brown and the regular gk.

In theory the bench should look good with: Bass, Harrison, Cannon, Harness, Morris, Walkes and Hawkins, who can play centre back if need be.

I endorse Ides thanks Woopert for keeping us up to date with the transfers.
The moves of Clarke and Lowe were a pity but more or less inevitable.
I do feel Pompey may have missed a trick with Dennis. I have a sense that they have been searching for something that may already have been within had Dennis been given a go at some stage. The level of recruitment we have seen this summer makes it very reasonable of Dennis to suspect his chance of opportunities would not of improved had he remained. I wish him well at Oriant.

Nathan Thompson is another loss but I feel Walkes with a fair run of games could prove to be a more than adequate replacement. I am not sure of where he is relative to Bolton in the pecking order. Probably behind since new players are usually enticed with implied promises of being the initial first choice. However, if Walkes has another season of limited opportunity he might be one who is seeking to leave next

On the positive side I am very hopeful that Harness and/or Williams will prove to be adequate replacements fo Lowe and, indeed, provide Curtis with competition for his place.
It is interesting to speculate, if Pompey are not promoted next year ,which players will be considering moving on to get Championship football. Twelve months ago it would be easy to predict Clarke but less so Lowe. Curtis and Marquis come to mind.

Portsmouth are rivalling Championship trio Blackburn Rovers, Brentford and Wigan Athletic for Everton forward Anthony Evans, according to reports.
Kenny Jackett handed debuts to a string of new signings in Saturday's defeat to Shrewsbury Town - including his newest addition, John Marquis.

And while Marquis is anticipated to play a key role in Pompey's attack this season, Football Insider believes Jackett is still looking bolster his options in the final third.

Evans, 20, is in the final year of his contract at Goodison Park and it is claimed the Toffees are willing to let move on for free with a sell-on clause.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Blackpool, however did not feature against Pompey during that time. He can play as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, and was on loan to Blackpool last season.

Reports this week have suggested that Pompey boss and ex-Millers chief Kenny Jackett was keen on prising the 6' 2" former Blackpool centre-half Clark Robertson; who impressed at the AESSEAL New York Stadium since joining last summer; away from South Yorkshire.

The 25 year old defender was previously with Aberdeen.
