That is the problem Liberty bought!!! Bernie truly was a master. He managed to wring the most money possible from sponsors, track promoters, tv companies etc then with just a few years left on team agreements, track contracts he sells up!!!! Perfect timing, tracks can no longer make profit, new team and track agreement needed and due to paywall tv viewers in decline, that added to the fact that combustion engines are becoming yesterday's technology, unfortunately I don't see F1 regaining it's popularity.
I do think FE is the way forward in the long term, it not only promotes greener fuel but it is pushing the technology behind it all and that is where the car manufacturers need to focus their futures on. If the manufacturers can promote their skills in electric vehicles then their sales will rise. I think that at the moment the public's view of electric vehicles are not quite where they need to be so more mainstream car manufacturers embracing electric racing will help them improve their electric car image.
So sad to say but I think F1 has had it's peak!!! I think Liberty will lose money big time......

The problem is F1 cant go electric until the technology catches up. I don't know if they'd go for something like a gas turbine powering an electrical drive, but FE is still at a stage where even F3 could lap it.

The problem is that change costs money

HWA in FE, who have Vandoorne as a driver, will be the works Mercedes team next season. This season is mostly an exercise in operations and fact finding for them.

If you look at Liberty as a company and then conclude F1 is a product but doesn't need to be their only product the answer becomes a little more obvious. Like all businesses, Apple a very good case in point right this minute, then diversification becomes the answer, but under the Liberty brand. Do they have the bandwidth and vision to manage a diversification.

We best all enjoy these years of F1, although could be part of a package of weekend entertainment put up by Liberty over the race weekend in future years. Could it become the equivalent of a global Goodwood type event, only a little more high octane..

The other problem is f1 may struggle to get much recognition as an electric series because I think FE have the rights sealed up for quitexa few years ?

I think you are right about FE having the rights to all electric for, I think, at least 10 years!!! So not sure how F1 can go on that longer!!!

Not sure any of the manufacturers would go for gas turbine/electric as it doesn't align with their car production. Didn't Rover do a gas turbine car back in the 60s?
Little gas turbine would be good as they are only efficient at full power. So a small one providing elec energy to drive maybe 4 wheel motors plus a capacitor boost storage would be great to see.

Hydrogen would be great but I am not sure governments would be happy with that as they would find it difficult to tax water if the cars had their own water to hydrogen generation.
It would be good not to just rely on electric vehicles as without real advances on battery tech, which hasn't really lept forward in the last 40 years, renewables only go so far then we have to rely on gas or nuclear.

I think that F1 hybrid engines and FE have really pushed electric systems and that will slowly filter through to all our new cars. So how far and fast could hydrogen powered F1 cars push technology forward???? Would be interesting.

I guess you haven't seen what a Tesla can do these days. Much better than any FE car.

I have seen the amazing things Tesla can do, the FE cars are getting better as development come. It would be great to see a tesla and a FE actually have a race :)

That would give Red Bull an unfair advantage as they'd just bottle up all the s**t spewed out by Helmut and Horner. Potent stuff.

Wonder if this is part of a wider move for Haas to move away from Ferrari ties given the arrival of alfa.

Grosjean has disappointed the last couple of seasons. Too many errors, whinges a lot. I wonder if Hass will also ditch Kevin for the same reasons. Neither seem to be able to perform consistently, or without on/off track issues.

Grosjean has had his chance in F1 and I don’t think at this point it would be unfair for him to be asked to move on.

Kevin has some raw speed but he does just need to refine things at the right moments to improve. I’d give him time.

I actually think Ocon might end up at Renault and Hulkenberg move on- either to Red Bull as has been mooted in recent weeks (replacing Gasly and giving RBR a really solid team mate alongside Verstappen), or to Haas, who would really welcome someone with his experience.

Tesla's technology is miles behind VW, Musk is just a snake-oil salesman who lives on subsidies because none of his companies are competitive. SpaceX is 'saving the planet' by reusing lunch vehicles, but the biggest pollutant is the fuel, and getting up and dopwn means twice the fuel gets used. Tesla hasn't ever made a profit and probably never will, even with the $6b it's been given in subsidies.
