On his way to NUFC for £36million according to Bild and Kicker. Hoffenheim have also just confirmed he may be leaving them and is in 'concrete' negotiations with a Premier League club.

Strong rumours of a possible record obliterating signing and I'm hardly bothered. Thanks Mike.

He's actually looked really good whenever I've seen him play, he's really strong with the ball kinda like Dembele from Spurs who was really hard to dispossess. We'll still need to buy another main striker for Joelinton to link up with though as he's not an out and out CF.

Good player from what I've seen but unproven - in the EPL although coming from Germany is probably as close as it gets to be fair - looks to be a goal in 3/4 game kind of player (60 League games 15 goals - extras in the cups but what kind of opposition were they against?) but has time on his side - was never a big Rondon fan although he did well for us last year but £16m for someone who's proven in the league and keeping a class manager like Benitez or £36m for an unproven player under Bruce all seems a bit backwards to be honest.

Hopefully he'll hit the ground running and get 10-15 goals this year if we can find a line to get him over.

He’s ****. Would rather have two £19m players like Almiron.

The **** scored 7 goals on loan last season ffs.

We sold Perez for less than that.

    **** the fat man.

****ing hell, he's a young player and got bags of potential.

Instead you're bitching. Can you please state why you believe a 30 year old mercenary who scored a few goals last year is a better prospect than a young player who could do a job for us?

And if you have two 19m Almiron like signings, name them.

I told you's last night to get your money on Joelinton being the first in under SB.
It does beg the question why suddenly spend £30+m now after all this time.
It's certainly not to appease the fans.

One theory is that the takeover is still on and the move is at the bequest of the "New Owners".

As a going away present, SB is also one last dig at the fans before Ashley decides to **** off.

So did Shola but he outscored this random no mark.
I’d go get Welbeck for nowt and pay him handsomely for more wages for Sturbridge.

This Brazilian was out on loan for 2 years.

    Ask yourself why......

It's something called developing your player.

Because he was 20 years old and the best way to develop your players is to get them playing regular football. For a young 6ft 1 target man his record for Hoffenheim in his one full season there is not that bad at all and his record on loan was decent, remembering his main objective and playing style is being strong and holding up the ball. With us having Almiron, Richie and others giving good service into the box he will likely have far better service than he did in Germany.

Unlike Newcastle who shoved Shola Ameobi on the bench for a few seasons sitting behind Shearer, then behind Owen, then behind ****ing Mark Viduka or whoever else we dragged into the side. We did an absolutely dire job at developing and helping Ameobi improve, he was allowed to stagnate and rot at our club. He should have asked for a transfer.

And I am sorry, Danny Welbeck is 28 and has a slightly marginally better record for Joelinton, you may say that Welbeck has played in a tougher league but he has also played for much better clubs. With the service of Man Utd and Arsenal the lad still looks below average, I'd be absolutely fuming if we signed that over paid nobody, he'd struggle to hit a barn door at our club. We are speaking about a footballer who scored 6 goals for Sunderland in 26 league appearances, right?

Joelinton is 22 and this recent season he's already started bagging hat-tricks and scoring in Champions League games. Not good enough for us though, we should go back to searching the Spanish second division. Oh wait, then we are ****ed... ok we should just close the doors.

Some of us still believe the takeover is on and Rafa will be back as soon as it goes through. Ashley signing a player for 36million is not as much of a stretch.

Three years ago there were also some who believed that Sunderland would find their rightful place in the football hierarchy so at least that proves the power of positive thinking.

Given that DPP wouldn’t share his straw, what makes you think Ashley is selling? We’ve had lots of groups checking our books for months and months if you believe the Ashley PR but all the groups seem to do is kick tyres and then resurface every Spring/Summer to do it all over again.

I believe Ashley is genuinely buying another player but what makes him think he knows how to build a team better tha a manager of the calibre of Benitez? Joey, who I hope is/will be a good player for us, is just another Perez, Thauvin etc type namely a young player to keep a short while and then hopefully sell for profit. He’s not being bought with building a team to challenge for honours in mind, simply future profit.

My worry is that Bruce will simply toe the line and be another Pardew. I hope he proves me wrong but I’m not holding my breath. I worry that he will simply go along with Ashley’s methods meaning we will never build a team to challenge just one where players will be used to make profit for Ashley. The fact he was umpteenth choice doesn’t augur well that he will hold footballing virtues above doing whatever is necessary to keep his dream job.

Joelinton is a desperate signing by a desperate despot.

I’d rather have Shola back than this no mark.

And DPP... we develop players at other clubs when they aren’t good enough for our starting 11.

That is clearly what Hoffenheim thought. A **** club in an inferior league to the PL.

So we are signing, for twice the money of Almiron.. a player not good enough for the mighty Hoffenheim.

Let that sink in lads. Have our standards sunk that low?

What next, Bas Dost for £50m?
